South Fork/West Side Reservoir Road NW Montana

Had a talk with a public relations lady at the Flathead National Forrest and she said at this point the road WILL REMAIN OPEN this snowmobiling season. The rumors of colverts being dug up and left are at this point untrue. The contract was just awarded last week so the schedule of what is going to exactly happen is still up in the air. I was told that through this hole construction process they have been very aware of the popularity of the riding area and has no and never had plans of closing the road to snowmobiles. There is a good chance there will be a public meeting once plans are put more to paper. Please call the Hungry Horse ranger station and ask to be put on the construction update email list and you will be sent a weekly e-mail update of the progress and be made aware of any public meeting.

Hmm.. I thought they were just redoing the the pavement on the first part.. that seems conterproductive to pave that, then close the rest of it.. basically rendering the pavement redoing worthles.. The road is highly used during summer months for all the camping.. so I guess thats just a strange rumor of it getting shut down. I will ahve to give them a ring and get that checked out.. the south fork is the chit.. I would hate for it to start to turn into the north fork area.. barely anything legal anymore..

There is a lot to what the FS is going to be doing on both sides. Winter should be fine, but this coming summer is going to a mess. Definitely worth keeping abreast of.

I will have to talk to my girlfriends mom, she works at the hungry horse ranger station and does a lot of stuff back at spotted bear, so shes probably well in the know on whats going on..

that will REALLY suck for spring riding if they start tearing it up and leave it open.. that will kill the whole april/may ridnig.. which is some of the best.]
