Something just hit me.....Who is really running this place?

And even now, with the two new Dell Rack Servers, we will almost certainly install a 3rd one later this year as we are using far more of these two than we expected because of the traffic on the site.

do i dare.......
uh what the h double hockey sticks

LMAO

You forgot to add that there where no problems at all until YOU added all the crap that no one else wanted, then the servers became overwelmed...

Maybe we should get verification of your statement, are you sure things where changed first. I would say if there wasn't a problem they would have left it alone. If you are going to make accusations could you please give a source to prove accuracy so the argument holds some ground. Not being a dick but since we have been running in circles and not getting anywhere, what we need is the facts.

Let it go man.
The whole argument is pointless.
they won't beleive what I tell them, or what Harris says or any of the staff at SnoWest.
So there is no point to the argument.

They beleive its some great big conspiracy.
Let them beleive what they will.

Every day we are building a better SnoWest just as was planned.

We were told in the beginning that these 2 new servers would serve us fine for years to come. Now we need a third one too? What gives?

I am guessing it is because they are using far more of these two than they expected because of the traffic on the site.

Not that I agree with the approach, or the decision, or the implementation...

But when more than one person makes a business decision together... is it REALLY a conspiracy???
I find it funny that people would use that word in this situation.

Had things been done in a less shady & more upfront manner though, I think you'd see a lot less of these "this is my theory" kind of threads.

How was it shady? That they tried to keep it under wraps for a period of time that they were going pay? That they didn't broadcast how the deal was structured between Harris and Chris? I'm not sure which part was shady. This is, after all, a privately held corporation we're talking about. Thus, there's no requirement for transparency or disclosure.

What I did see was a lot of people who don't understand corporate structure and/or service provision opining on what they thought was happening. But I still don't see what was shady. Unless of course you call "charging for something that once was free" shady.

Yeah, because SW is so much busier now. Yeah right.

Something for you to chew on...
Busy for the servers doesn't just come for new posts.
It comes from total traffic and read requests.

Note:
The post count is WRONG.
It appears to be short by about 160,000 posts.
This appears to stem from when we ran the re-count that lowered so many people's posts counts last fall, and was only discovered yesterday when we were trying to determine who had just made the 2 millionth post.

When we re-run the counter update process, that number should jump back up by the missing 160K posts.

In spite of all the controversy and drama, new memberships for February 2010, were UP +106% over the same period in 2009. That means we have more than TWICE as many new members coming to SnoWest and creating new user accounts as we did last year.

None of our projections called for that level of traffic in new members, nor peak active member loads in the 18,000 range.

So it don't let it bother you or be surprised if sometime this year we had a 3rd server.

The entire "slowest" phenomenon started after the forum software was "upgraded", and the useless features where added.

As long as this thread is getting some views:
There is a post in here from 2/21 asking how to delete pictures because with all the new limitations the guys account is over the limit. Still no one has been able to get an answer for him.

But there is now way to edit older posts, or delete any pictures because chris is too worried about all the upset ex members taking all their info with them.

Not true. I remember slow problems prior to the new features. The new features seamed to make the slow problem worse, but the problem existed prior to those upgrades or features.

Wow, nobody knows yet how this is gonna turn out for ya, but if it doesn't go so well........you seem to be very well equipped to speak for any of our political leaders........they would pay big for this kind of SPIN ability. LOL.

Just to play devil's advocate I'm wondering how we have data for March 2010 that exceeds Sept. 2009 when we're only 5 days into March 2010?

If it was a typo and meant to represent Feb 2010 then one could argue that it would be expected that we have more traffic in the months of February and March than you would in September. Most are still enjoying their summertime in Sept and don't really start getting into the sleds until Oct/Nov.

The data is a snapshot at that point in time... Those are monthly totals he is comparing...

Ok. I thought they were monthly totals also but I don't think so. From what I gather out of this, these are totals and how much they've increased since Sept. 2009. I guess the way to quiet the crowd that suspects the overall numbers are down would be, what's the monthly numbers? I think that would be a more realistic way to look at the numbers than just totals since Sept 2009 through today.

If this site is such a crock, I'm wondering which one of you bellyachers is going to build the successor site to SW. Post me when it's up & running, I'll have a look. In the meantime, SW suits my needs fine and I will be upgrading my membership for the small price they are asking. I wonder if Sirius had an online forum like this how much flak they would have taken for charging for radio broadcast.
