Someone Please Help!!!

Something was wrong in my drive/dropcase i got it all torn down and my bearing on the top or on the Driven shaft was worn down on one side so i got all the case torn down and i noticed the hole in the chassis that the driven shaft goes through is worn on one side! Now my question is.. With that hole being bigger and the shaft moving is that driven shaft gonna still wear on that bearing? I dont have the money to get a new chassis i was wondering if and how long that bearing will last? Please help!!!!!! Cody

I assume you mean the top shaft that is attached to the secondary clutch the way you describe it, not the bottom shaft that goes through the track?. Either way it shouldn't have hurt the chassis. It may have ruined the half of the gear case but nothing else of importance. When you install these bearings you shouldn't have any side thrust on them. If you had the secondary too tight with too many washers it could pull on that shaft causing the bearing to fail.

Yeah that is the on the top shaft. Now i bought this from a friend who knew even less than me about snowmobiles and he took the secondary clutch off to replace the belt(dumb i know) now when he put that clutch back on are you saying maybe he did it wrong?

Did the bearing pull through the aluminum half of the case? There is a shoulder that should keep the new bearing from pulling through? If the shoulder is still there a bearing should fix it. The secondary clutch should slide a little on the shaft or it can cause a side load on the bearings. When you reinstall the shaft you will have to remove the secondary and also loosen the lock collar on the bearing behind the secondary so the shaft can slide freely. Put the new bearing in the case and install the gear and tighten the bolt that holds the top gear on then tighten the lock collar behind the secondary. Install the secondary so that it has a little side play on the shaft. This is done buy installing washers and spacers as needed on the bolt holding the secondary on. If you need to just look at a friend's cat that has the same type clutch. It will give you an idea of the position of the washers and the number needed. If it pulled through the case you will need to get a different one-just the back half. They just unbolt from the chassis
