some M series questions

I have 2 07 M series,
an M6 153 (wifey's) Boss seat, slp can, slydog skis

my 162 M8, boss seat, speedwerx pipe,y pipe, can, fastlane vents and no snows, simmons skis

I can't afford two new sleds and these are getting close to 4000 mi.
This spring I am going to put new top ends on both sleds and convert the rear suspensions to the 09 floaters. rebuild the ddrives/clutches, bushings etc.
We both ride pretty hard but I am 56, she is 47 so we are not jumping and stuff. She is starting to enjoy boondocking but no big climbs.

Going through 2 sleds this off season.
Maybe I will finally fix my handwarmers.

questions;
has anyone had experience with M6 aftermarket pipe? I am not looking for performance but rather weight savings. speedwerx has one I got my eye on.

V/E bd half tunnel and bumper for the M8.
Does that go over the existing tunnel and how sturdy is it? cooler mounting? tailight suggestions? any issues?

Powerclaw track, is it worth it? We have challenger tracks now. They are in good shape.

Snow eliminators. she needs a set
anybody got a set laying around you want to sell?

telescopic steering, they say they will fit on the 07s, sturdy? maybe just on the wifes sled? looks great but...?

The goal with the M6 is to lose as much weight possible on the m6 front end without turning it into a styrofoam cup.
The wife is getting pretty good and it just makes it that much more fun for me if she is enjoying herself. She weighs like 115 so pulling over the sled ain't so easy for her. I put the old floats on it last season but one of them collapsed and caused a wreck. She is OK but I need a new hood. so front floats is not something she is going to want to do. anybody sitting on some Ti front springs they want to part with?

Both these sleds have been bullet proof to date.
We both are satisfied with the power and reliability. I just want to make them the best I can without dumping 25 grand into 2 new sleds.

any suggestions or help with parts is appreciated. I am not looking for free stuff just good parts and sound suggestions.

Thanks for your help

Start with the preventative maintenance, freshen up the motor and rebuild/replace the clutching. Take apart the diamond drives and have a look over. Replace motor mounts.

RSI makes some high power hand warmers that your wife might enjoy.

Since you already have a can on the m6 i don't believe there is much weight to lose by replacing the single pipe.

The BD Half tunnel replaces the rear tunnel section. Its a nice product. They also sell just the rear bumper that goes over the tunnel and you cut the taper into your old tunnel. A nice LED light for a brake light. They also sell the flattened cooler or you can flatten your stock one or purchase a 09+ crossfire cooler (More cooling capacity).

You probably wont need the powerclaw for your type of riding. If your tracks are in good condition i wouldn't worry about this.

Snow eliminators - Any with the plastic do a better job at snow buildup (opinion)

BDX sells an adjustable steering that would be better then the stock setup. Most people don't like the adjustable steering because it is a weak link. BDX also sells replacement diamond drive parts that you may need. I would recommend replacing at least the planetary gear set with that amount of miles.

Since your goal is to loose weight and she already trashed that hood... A skins mesh hood or similar light weight hood may be a good idea. An intake would also shed some weight in the front but I'm not sure how the m6 responds to those. We have some m8s that seem to like them...
Oil delete would shed some weight. But really it sounds like you have a good setup and don't mess with this stuff if you don't have too. Save some money and purchase her some new gear and it might be more enjoyable... For her sled something that would tailor it to her riding style would be having the suspension revalued. This done properly would make the sled easier to maneuver...

save yourself some money and sell them and upgrade a few years, trust me it will be cheaper than all the stuff you are talking about.

i also agree with what these guys are saying, if your lucky you can find a hold over 11, or even a 10 for dirt cheap alot easier then spending all that time and money on those sleds. remeber 4000 miles is alot who knows what the chassi looks lik inside. just my 2 cents.

Agree with the other 3 guys above. Save your money, sell both the sleds as stock then sell aftermarket parts and take the money from that and find some 08/09/10 M's with lower miles. With this new chassis coming out lots of guys are starting to off their M series and you can get some good deals. My roommate picked up an 08 M8 with 700 miles for $4500 at the beginning of the season and I just bought an 08 M1000 SnoPro with 70 miles and 7 months of warranty for 6000. It also came with a brand new mesh hood and boss seat. Do some shopping on KSL and here on snowest and you'll find some killer deals. In the end you will both be happier and have less money into refreshing your current sleds with somewhat high mileage.

I do not totally disagree however I am committed to doing this as I already bought the float conversion kits.
I am thinking that I can do most of the work myself for a total cost of 4k for both sleds. If I sold mine and bought new or slightly used I would be another 4-5K per sled.
I just cannot do it.

07 M8 with extras $4,000
07 M6 with extras $3,500
Fox float conversion kit: $500
$8,000

09 M8 Sno pro $6,000-$6,500
09 M6 $5,000-$5,500
$11,000-$12,000

$4000 to boot and you get better bumper, electronic reverse and powerclaw

You will like the Powerclaw and the reverse. To be fair you will have to spend another grand or so (vents, no-snos, maybe a couple of other things), but you'll save a lot of time that you can spend with the little lady and you'll have much better resale value when you go to sell the newer sleds.

Very true about the resale, you just won't get that money back out of the sled. It seems like more money up front and yes it might be but in the end your better off. No need to go out and spend 25 grand on 2 new sleds. or more than 12 grand on 2 sleds for that matter. Take it from somebody who had over 15 grand into a 05 mod sled and ended up selling it for 4700. It sucks to take a hit like that which is how you would feel when you go to sell the sleds you have now in 2 more years. Just the more logical thing to do is get rid of what you've got and upgrade in a financially feasible manner.

A perfect condition m7 is worth as much as a 09 m1000. But for you I think the 09 m8 would be perfect and all your mods will go right on it, don't get an 08 or older it would defeat the purpose. I would sell my 09 m1000 fully modded for 7 if I thought I could get it.
