solar battery chargers

Does anyone have any experience with the little solar trickle chargers? Wondering if I can permanently mount one on the roof of an enclosed trailer?

Solar charger

I started down this path in 2009. I mounted a solar panel on my trailer in February of 2009. Everything was fine when I left the unit in storage and I hope to get back to it this February. So far I have not received any notification of problems and I know some of the family has been in the trailer. I will let you know how this turns out when I return to WA.
Powerderdreams.

Been thinking the same thing!

Seems somewhat cost prohibitve, at least for the ones that actually do something !

I still like the concept !

Thanks. I am just thinking one of the little trickle chargers to maintain the battery in the 600 SDI. These are ~$20 at sears, northern tool, harbor freight, etc.

We have one for our race trailer. Not permanently mounted, we just hook it up on occasion to keep the hydraulics battery fresh. Seems to be doing the job for now. For the money it seems easier than carting a 'big' charger around that needs an alternate power source all the time. I would give it a shot.

I have a 2007 horse trailer with living quarters special ordered and we got the solar panel mounted on top. I love it - we can be in the mtns gathering in the fall and have nothing but cloudy days and it will still charge. Last winter when we actually had snow we were very conscientious about removing snow (its not under cover). We use that trailer quite a bit and have yet to drain the batteries

I use 2 1.5W solar panels.. just a couple small ones I got cheap $5/each to keep the wife's car battery topped up as she only drives it every once in a blue moon. I'm contemplating going solar or wiring in to the truck to charge my car hauler winch battery.. solar would be nice for when I don't use the trailer for a month at a time(which is deently rare, but I don't have to worry about it. Truck would be nice cause it would charge faster and I don't have to worry about findng a safe spot to mount solar panels...
