Just want to hear peoples opinions on this.
And im interested in "Out-of-the-box"-reliability.

I believe the carbed Polaris 600 engine is a good choice.

What about the AC 7/800cc engines? Or other brands?

Polaris 700's minus the 05-06 755's. I had a 00 700 RMK that was always a one or two pull motor.

Suzuki 800, if the definition of "today" is a motor currently in production.

polaris 500s are unbreakable too those old indys will run forever.

Also, the phazer genIIs are still awesome running sleds

I would have to say that yamaha would have it on that. There engine is bullet prof and they always have made a great product but I would never own one. The damn thing weight to much and the the price is up there compared to the others on the market.

Kyle:)

I think the poster ment snowmobile engines in current production.

All of the 600's have a very good reputation.

And no matter which brand, the problems with any of the 800's have been minimal.

Honestly, it wouldn't be a deciding factor in my buying decision.

I would hardly say the 800 problem Polaris has is minimal if they are recalling every single one. Im a life time Polaris rider, but I sold my junk 700 CFI sled and went back to a liberty engine in a Pro x based chassis for engine reliability reasons. Very doubtfull my next sled will be a Polaris.

I'm just posting on what I know. My doo motor problems were not Doo's fault. I had an air bubble in the oil line. Dealer problem.

EVERY RMK/Dragon 800cc owner that I know has gotten at least 1 new motor since last season, some are on their 3rd or 4th block while some are one their 4th or 5th set of pistons.

I don't really know anything about Cats. Sorry.

If we're talking recent sled engines, I gotta go with the 03 Cat 900 (860) in the 1M. Ask Pecos....I think he's put in one set of spark plugs since fall 2002.....

Reliability

I Think The Laydown 700 and 800 motors in Cats are hard to beat. Although the 600's from Cat and Polaris are pretty bulletproof as well.....My .02

Gotta say that cat 862.....actually a suzuki motor.....changed plugs twice and it has only lost 3-4 lbs of compression since new and that was 7 years ago.....pull the cord & go.....this engine is so overbuilt that you can apparently up the bore size without issues because the bottom end is so bullet proof.....

BUT.....this is just one mans opinion(ok maybe 2) and you have to understand that it doesn't exactly get 5000 miles per year put on it either.....

I own both a 2007 rev 800 and a 2009 xp 800 both have been solid sleds. I have heard that the 2007 has bearing problems but so far has been awesome and has over 2000 miles on it. The XP has 1200 miles on it and hasn't missed a beat, the sleds in our group go from a 2004 ski-doo 800 to the 2009 all are 800's but two which are 600's, and not one sled went down last year and we ride every weekend usually about 40-60 miles a weekend.

But then again there's only 2 that ride hard and the rest sit at the bottom and drink :beer; :D They call themselves the 2 mile club, cause every 2 miles it's a :beer; break:eek:

5238 miles on my 07 RMK 600, zero problems.

My brother has over 2200 on his 08 M8, hasn't even changed the plugs yet.

I can't say i have good experience with the rotax 800 engines. two seasons ago we where 4 friends riding together, all with 800 HO engines, and all broke down. Mine broke down twice that season. One of us kept the sled last season also, and it broke down then too..

I wont say i have a good experience with my 06 RMK (755) either, but it lasted 3500 KMs before it broke down. Now i have a new overhauled engine, and hopefully it will last at least 3500 KMs before it go down again.
