so, what will a crack in the Y pipe do?

Found this last night, and wondering if this would have caused the bogging issue that I thought was stator? When the sled (09 cpc stage II HCR, 2k miles, new reeds)is hot, it bogs on occasion, and has been getting worse in recent weeks. The sled still runs extremely well on a pull, but slowing down it tends to bog when warm. Not all the time, which makes me think it's electrical, and only when hot, which made me think stator. We added a ton of vents a few weeks ago & it never has a hot start issue anymore (SO NICE!), but the bog is still there.

Before I slap in the RM stator I have sitting here, I wonder if this would be causing the problems that I blamed on the stator? I can see how heat would affect the crack & make it wider when hot, but don't understand why only when slowing down (like turning around at the bottom of a big hill)would it do it.
 
BOONDOCKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The first thing you need to do is get rid of the kindergraden fuel controller you are using and get a boondocker box so you can lean it out on the low end and the bog should go away.
I am really suprised the bog is not when it is trying to carry your fat a$$ up a hill. Come on tell the truth! We're all friends here.:smokin::violin::fish2::boink:
 
A crack will give a low end bog and you mite see some blow-by on your jugs.
 
A crack in the pipe or in the y pipe will act almost EXACTLY like chipped reeds. Bottom end will suffer and will be worse as it heats up because of expansion. Once you get it going it will run OK, i.e. 6500+ rpm.

PS, I would not trust the RM Stator. I have no experience with them, but have had several guys call that bought them and lasted only a couple hundred miles.
 
My RMstator was crap would not work with my turbo sled

plus they gouged me a 20% restocking fee kissed $78 goodbye

yeppers.. cracked pipes make really dodgey bottom ends and hurt overall performance. and like others said, heat allows em to open up and get worse..

tiny little cracks in the pipe on a friends sled had him chasing his tail over a little bottom end stumble for quite some time. ran great just a little stumbly out of the hole.
 
The RM stator was just to slap in while having a good guy rewind my stocker.

Thanks for the input, I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't off by not replacing the stator after seeing that. We were pretty sure, but my wife will kill me if she has to deal with a bog on another good pow day.

Exactly, this one was PERFECT aside from this stumble... DROVE me NUTS.

when the stumble wasn't there, I didn't want to TOUCH it it was so smooth, I'm just so glad (sure hope we're right) that it's not the stator, that would have been a hassle.

This sled has the best bottom end of any of the turbos I've run. The engagement is kinda obnoxious, but I would guess that is why it goes so well right off the line. Kinda tempted to crank up the engagement on my sled a tad too.
