So how does the Russian/Georgian conflict effect our current situation in the world?

The US quite obviously is siding with the Georgians, and Russia is effectivley telling the US to kiss off.

Supposedly Bush was "firm" with Putin, at least according to CNN, and Cheney is saying that the "Russian aggression should not go unanswered" ..

So, what I see happening is, Russia becomes even more allied with Iran than they already are, and WWIII starts sometime next year.

Discuss....

been secretly watchin this since Friday ...not sure I f Im gonna send more troops or not .....waiting till tuesday then Im goin in balls firts cmon

Isreal will settle things with Iran long before the US will. Russia might be aligned with Iran but they're certainly not willing to go to war with the US over it. These sort of games have gone on for decades and I'm sure it'll continue for decades to come.

I Agree, Russia is not ready to take on the USA, They are on there way back up but have a way to go still.

.

agreed, Russia isn't the threat it was. Isreal will start a fight if there is one and we will back them.

The real threat is hosting the Olympics right now.

Who are you kidding?

Russia is as capable as anyone.

It will be a truly sad day if we ever square off with them.

We are stretched in the Middle East already, you think we are capable of going to War in Eastern Europe?

Russia/Afganistan didn't lead to world war III, neither will Russia/Georgia. (the same thing was said then, btw.)

We're only stretched in the current wars due to political restrictions on troop numbers.

Georgia will fall if the Russians want it. No one will do anything about it. Too bad really, that no one can stand up to them. We aren't in any position to do anything, even if we wanted to. The best we could do is go plane to plane, and send some ships into the Black Sea. And, that would probably give the Iranian crazy guy a chance to pull something.

But, if Putin starts pulling the same stunt with Ukraine. What then? That's a whole nother ball of wax. The EU, NATO, and the US, might have to stand up and say NO. Don't look forward to that day. No way.

What I don't understand is why CNN doesn't have better coverage of this event. They're headquartered right in Georgia so you'd think they'd basically have live footage but they don't....
