Well looks like we're gonna be getting E15. I'm no fuel expert and I know I've been running on E10 forever now, since I don't think there is anywhere around here that even sells straight gas now, but I got to wondering...are we gonna have any new issues cropping up in sleds now that the government is mandating E15 instead of E10???

You can buy "straight" gas all over the midwest (except MN). Almost every gas station in iowa has a grade with NO ethonal in it. Eric

Up until early 2009 you cd stuff in could still get the non-oxygenated stuff in ut and wy ..... but not now :(

If anyone's ever riding in Nelson area, straight up gas 0 ethanol at my station....

Still holding out, but sooner or later "they" will make us change over to ethanol blend I'm sure....hopefully later. There is really no benefit, it costs a bunch of money for different filters and tank cleaning to change a station over, there's not a damn corn field in this entire province, just a waste of time that sounds good to some idealist politician sitting in a meeting.

Yeah, I'm in Wyoming though....but if I'm ever sledding in the midwest I'll remember that. :face-icon-small-ton:focus:

I'm sorry....Didnt know what state you are in as your original post said nothing about that. I was simply responding that there are many places left in the US that you can still buy regular gasoline. Eric

I am against the govt mandating ethanol,

but I would think people would want to use it.

No worries. I didn't clarify. :face-icon-small-ton

Anyways nobody knows if 15% ethanol will affect a sled?

Actually there is non-oxygenated gas at many stations in the town I live in in MN. Non-oxygenated is the same as non-ethanol right? it's either 91 or 92 octane. Can't remember. There's a sticker right on the pump stating it's non-oxygenated and for boats, old cars, etc....

Just did some research.....Found many things about ethanol in MN here is one inerst:

Minnesota law mandates that all gasoline sold in the state contain 10% ethanol and that all diesel fuel contain 5% biodiesel. Minnesota is home to 18 ethanol plants. According to the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, the industry has a capacity to produce 850 million gallons of ethanol a year. However, Minnesota motorists use about 280 million gallons of ethanol for fuel. There are three biodiesel plants in Minnesota, which have the capacity to produce 63 million gallons of biodiesel annually. According to the Minnesota Soybean Growers Association, Minnesotans consume approximately 16 million gallons of biodiesel each year.

I am against this for sledding. If we were not subsidizing corn I would be for it because it means we could get away from Middle East Oil a bit, but the subsidization of corn doesn't make sense to begin with.

Ethanol wouldn't be a horrible snowmobile fuel if you tuned for it. Mileage would probably go down but since it has higher octane you could do a lot more with it. It just has less BTU's (energy content) so you need more of it.

It would just be nice to be able to get regular fuel. Plus older cars could have some problems running this much ethanol, warranties could be an issue on some cars.

NASCAR will be running E15 in Cup, Nationwide & truck series starting in February 2011

From people I have talked to (here in Oregon) it will take at least 2 years to implement the E15 because most of todays cars wasn't built to run that level of ethonal. I am sure non-ethonal premium would still be available many places for small engines and older cars. Our station still carries the regular non-ethonal "good stuff". They have a lot of bugs to work out before it gets implemented.

Get your beer and popcorn here.

Get a front row seat to one the rerun of a great pissing match. Maf vs the rest.

I must have missed something along the way....?

And I don't know of any gas stations around here that don't sell fuel that contains ethanol; even premium. All the pumps seem to say its oxygenated.
