Snowy Range This Week...

We haven't had snow here in Northern New York and am planning a last ditch trip to the Snow Range this week. I realize that conditions following this recent snowfall may not be ideal by mid-week but it won't be a completely wasted trip...will it ?

This will be my first trip west and am just hoping to get my 'feet wet'.

Any insight would be appreciated !

More snow possibly Tues and We'd. Are you coming alone? It's big, unforgiving country and no place to break down or get injured without a backup plan. It's also a fantastic area that is fun for everyone from trail riders to folks looking for more extreme stuff. Bring buddy or try and hook up with another group if you aren't already.

Thanks !

Unfortunately I am traveling alone and hope to connect with others to ride with ? I understand the size and scope of the country and the risk of traveling alone. Often my trips here in the Northest are in excess of 200 miles per day solo to a destination so I am accustom to having to be prepared...but it obviously it's often as isolated as in the mountains.

I am not riding 'true' mountain sleds but I do have Arctic Cat High Country 600 and 800 with 2 1/4" tracks. This is not a 'high mark' trip but more of a scouting excursion.

200 mile ride without seeing another person? Or with a town/gas every 10 miles?

The snowies are arguably the most brutal range around here. Wind can go from calm to 75 mph in a half hour. Resulting in total whiteout and subzero windchills.

Youll have fun whether its snows more or not, but i would find a riding partner.

Please do you and your family a favor and DO NOT RIDE ALONE. Especially if it's your first time out there.

We were breaking trail heading north through the roller coaster yesterday AM in deeeep pow and ran into a guy riding south with his son on the back. Not a two up, just a kid hanging on while his Dad pounded through the coaster. Couldn't believe it, no one with them.

Thanks for the invite ! You may very well be seeing me. Good news is that I received a PM from another rider heading out from northeast Pennsylvania and we might connect as well ?

I realize the northeast is not the Snowy's. On a 200 mile ride I've had days where I haven't seen another rider for the first 200 miles. At times it can be 30-40 miles between gas stops. I've made it a practice to carry gas, a source of shelter if needed, fire starter, water, something to eat, extras, etc...

Is the roller coaster that big ravine that heads downhill just from below widowmaker?

I have some very close friends in Laramie and have been riding the Snowys for about 20 years, last Wednesday two of us were up on the back side in the trees all day (poor visibility but great snow) we tried to cut across the lakes to get down but could even see the widow maker from the base, went back out the roller coaster hit trail O, by Sheep Lake it was blowing so hard we couldn't even find the trail markers and had to travel by GPS alone, so PLEASE find a group that knows the area to hook up with

Great day yesterday. Busy with trailers from all over the country but theres plenty of room to roam. Trails and play areas close to the trails were hit hard by the end of the day but some snow in the forcast this week.

My 9 year old creating work for Dad.

Want to head out Monday after Easter Sunday but it depends on snow conditions. Hoping for a good forecast in the next week!
