Does anyone know what the scoop is at Snowy Mtn. lodge, we heard a church camp bought it.
Nobody seems to know it there going to be open, serve food, have gas, rent cabins. Heading up there end of Jan.

Will the restaurant be open?

The restaurant is not open at this time. Groups can rent different areas of the lodge (conference room, industrial kitchen, dining room) for exclusive use, but we will not have any food available. All large cabins (1-6) are equipped with a full kitchen, and Centennial (7 miles back down the mountain) offers several options for eating. We would greatly appreciate feedback regarding opening the restaurant in coming years, but it will not be open this year.

Will fuel be available?

This is one of the most frequent questions we are asked. The Lodge has historically offered gas, but it will not be available at this time. When we purchased the Lodge in October we were informed that the tank did not meet EPA standards and could not be used. Due to the significant investment of resources required to fix the Lodge and cabins we were not able to instal a new tank that would meet all standards before this winter. We encourage guests to bring up extra fuel in tanks to use daily and run back down to Centennial as needed to fill up. We would also greatly appreciate feedback regarding this issue, as we have heard from some that fuel is vital and from others that they always bring their own fuel.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions at admin@snowymountainlodge.com

Thanks for all the info Coldfinger, we have a cabin rented from The Old Corral but it sure would be nice to have gas up there. I would agree that the fuel is vital up there, the guys that are bringing there own are probably using race gas or something special. Dragging along gas cans sucks in my opinion. Food on the other hand is easy to deal with, a couple of sandwhichs and a water isn't hard to bring along.
Hope the place does well for you.

fuel is also sometimes helpful for the guys coming from the other side of the mountain if they want to play for a while on this side. Also, I have stayed at the lodge in the past and it was awesome to not have to get in the pickup after a long day of riding - just filled up each moring at the lodge. If I have to drive into Centenial every day/night anyway I will just lodge down there where theres food & drink. The availability of fuel and being able to ride right from your door was a big draw to the lodge

What is the closest gas fill up by sled from SML? On the Trails? Can you ride down to Centennial? Staying at SML this weekend, bringing gas, but just curious of any other options.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong. But the place on the west side has gas and then centennial and albany.

Even if there was enough snow to ride down to Centennial, I'm not sure you'd want to do that. It's 5 miles one way and it'd be easier just to hop in the truck and drive down there for fuel using some jerry cans.

When we have stayed at Mtn Meadow Cabins, we always took our own gas. The ride into Cent. is doable, but not very good to use as a primary route for fueling. If you don't want to pack your own out, I would recommend the pickup trip down the hill to fill a couple cans. That would be much faster also.

even when the snow is good we dont ride down to centennial to fill up. I dont like wasting fuel that i could be using on the hills and powder

Just got back from a trip to the Snowies and stayed at the Snowy Mountian Lodge. The whole group was very impressed with the experience produced by SML staff and cabins. We will definately be back! Brought gas cans and that worked just fine. That would probably be the request for next season, but A+++ experience!
