snowmobiling around Elko?

I just got the news that the company I work for is going to do a huge layoff.
It turns out I might be moving to Elko for work. What is the snowmobiling like around there? I am from Washington and pretty much only enjy mountian riding. How long of a season do they have?

Great place to live. Here's of few pictures of sledding just 20 minutes from the house.

Hey addict, I hope that is spring riding, it looks like cement. The pics are awesome i guess im just hoping that there is some fluffy powder this winter.
I guess I will also be looking for some people to ride with. I hope there are some friendly folks to show someone around.

Hardpack is the norm. If you're set on bottomless powder this isn't the place. If you get out within two or three days of a storm you'll get heavy powder. If you're a few days late, it gets stiff pretty quick. Drop me a PM if you end up in town this winter, I'd be more than happy to show you around.

I guess on the bright side there doesnt seem to be any trees. around here hard pack snow is dangerous. coming down the hills can be pretty scary unless you are riding something with an attack 20 track on it. those things sucked but damn would they stop.

There is some other options to explore, North of Elko in the Mountain City area. You can head out into the area heading to Jarbidge and even over in the Maggie Summit area. Lamoille is outstanding and when the snow is fresh, that is a tough place to beat.

a locals 2 cents!

You'll love it! Great place to live (better LOVE the outdoors!) economy is great, lots of good money (if you dont mind digging for it) and the best sledding you've never heard of. Mtn is a great community of riders that will bring anyone along! Many days i've been the only one who could ride, trailer up the mtn and just ask whatever group i come across if i can join em! You can check out these 2 vids i made. The yellow "REV" on "PowderCrew" was all up north... Jacks Peak. If you make it out this way , holler!

The nice thing about Elko is the hospitality and riding.... the most awesome group of folks to ride with in the most rugged riding in the area..... GREAT stuff.... don't let that adrenaline addict guy fool ya :face-icon-small-coo .... he has quite the hot rod eh!! JK they are great peeps and will get to to the absolute best~

hey powdercrew, what is the best gig as far as work there? i have been looking at a job as a service tech for terex. I guess its mostly on mining equipment but I dont know what else is around there.
Thanks for the info though and the links. The first link didnt work so you might want to check it

Elko's economy is driven by mining and construction with a hint of tourism and gambling. Chukar hunting is good if you're into self destructive recreation. The deer hunting is decent but drawing a tag is a wee bit difficult. "King" I'm hoping for some early snow, I'd even take any icy road ride about now. I've been starting the sled in the garage then opening the door into the house, it fills the house with that awesome race fuel aroma combined with brain killing leaded fumes. :) I might have to tone down the riding a bit. I jumped off a cornice last spring and landed a little sideways dislocating my shoulder out the rear, kind of like falling down and breaking a hip. I had no idea I was sooo old.

LOL!! I hope you are doing okay tho eh! I am VERY much looking forward to getting up there with all you guys again.... talked to Westwood today is a matter of fact while I was eating lunch with Sallaberry.... that new machine of his is something else man~ I couldn't contain myself when we got snow on the day of our event.... my motto get 2 flakes stacked and it's time to ride.... I too would take an icy road at this point :D

PS if you are old.... I hope I am riding the $hit you are when I get old , you pulled some nice little drops last year Mr!

more than mining (sorta) and try this thread...

Mining is where the big money is. Surface ops is good, underground ops is GREAT! All fields: operators, mechanics, construction, electricians, maintenance and of course a wealth of contractors and support companies. But, something new (if you can get the 'ol lady to land a good job...) Firefighting with Div. of Forestry and BLM pays good and will keep the blood pumpin (lots of fires in this area), State Hgwy Dept has over 5 stations within 60 miles and that'll put ya right out there in the snow. Even slim opportunities of cowboyin' with 401ks and retirement! But the mining industry is the money.

see if this one works:

Gosh Im gettin sad that I moved! Only because the riding was so great and the people were even better. It's amazing trust me.

Scotty, Im definatley making more then a few trips down there this season. It'd be great if you could keep me updated on snow conditions then we could plan a ride with the whole gang.

Mountain riding is pretty much all they have..........er except for the down in the flat riding..LOL

I love riding Elko. It is some of the steepest technical stuff you will want to try out. Don't let those fellows fool you. It's pretty powdery after the major storms. Big Avy danger and deep enough that the big big boys can't climb to the top. More than enough challenge for stock sleds. Better be ready to clutch and ride 10K ft in the Rubies and 5K ft up north. There is no such thing as a trail up there unless ya call two tracks going the same way a trail.

The season is kinda short. They had a little road riding snow a few weeks back and you will prolly have to put the sled away by the end of June....maybe July if it's a real good year and a cool spring.

Good luck on your endevour! Hook up with Adrenaline Addict.
