Snowmobilers who use clear creek cabin sugerloaf area at Halfway Oregon, we need your help. The Baker F.S. is refusing to issue a permit to use ATVs to go in and maintain the cabin. The Snowmobile club has been doing this one weekend a year since it was built. They are saying we can do maintance wood cutting ect. with snowmobiles or they will pack anything we need in on horses. We don't have the time to walk in and see what needs to be done and then go get with the F.S. on there time schedual.
Any Snowmobiler who has used the cabin knows what a life saver it is and can be. Please call or email. Thanks from Wallowa County Gamblers Snowmobile Club.

They won't offer you a conditional access permit for this?

I heard things might be getting tighter for you over there. We were just there last winter and thoroughly enjoy having the cabin there despite only stopping for a gander.

They been giving us a conditional use permit since we started to build the cabin in 2001. Now they telling us they don't want any atvs in there at all even for one day, but still are giving permit to the ditch company for maintance on the reservoirs.

The ditch company only goes in part way .And the point is once we don't get a permit and go in one year they my not let us ever.

At this point in time the direction of the USFS is to eliminate motorized use. They do not need a reason nor do they attempt to be resonable. This is just an example of what to expect in the future, Elimination of ATV use now and snowmobiles in the future. This action is typical of the arrogance and ignorance currently being displayed by managing agencies.........llc

We have trails in our area that are being updated to fit into their summer motorized plan. This eliminated our summer maintenance off of quads. They finally came back recently and said we could get a permit to access these trails for summer work parties. I heard you had a different manager move into your area that was not motorized friendly.

Have you used the saftey issue with them, throwing in the skiiers in the mix. That cabin has been a life safer for several. It needs to be maintained. It has a good fire brake around it now.

The ranger out of Baker went in to look at the area might be able to work something out next year he said to late this year won,t let us in there now.
