The Idaho State Journal in Pocatello is reporting a snowmobiler was buried and killed in an avalanche today.

The incident is said to have occurred in Bonneville County and involved a person from Arco Idaho.

quote from article:
An Arco snowmobiler was killed Thursday afternoon by an avalanche in a remote area of Bonneville County in Neely’s Cove near Palisades Peak.
According to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s office, Rex J. Andersen, 39, was buried for almost 10 minutes before he was located by friends with avalanche beacons and uncovered with shovels. They administered CPR and summoned Air Idaho Rescue, but Andersen could not be revived.

Andersen’s body was flown by helicopter to Driggs where he wife was waiting at the hospital.
Members of the group said they had found a steep slope and three of them climbed it with their machines. When Andersen came up as the fourth snowmobiler to attempt it, the slope broke loose and buried him. They said Andersen owned an avalanche rescue pack, but he had left it home.
Andersen was found lying on his side next to his sled.
The Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said it wants the public to know that with the recent storms and different types of snow fall, conditions are not safe in the backcountry areas.
“With snowpack already on the ground, a few days last week of light powder snow, followed by this weeks wet drizzle creates ice on top of powder, this is a dangerous combination,” the sheriff’s office said in a release.
They urged snowmobilers to take all of the proper safety equipment, ride with groups of responsible riders and do take any unnecessary risks.

My condolences and prayers to the family. Let's be safe out there everyone! carry, practice and think..
