Snowmobile that runs on sand

I have built me a dune sled over this past summer. Just got done about a week or so ago. I will be heading to the dunes in a couple of weeks to ride it. Check out my youtube page in a few weeks and you will see some video of us riding it at the dunes.

I do have a short clip of us testing the wheels after we got that done. Couldn't ride too long as we still had not hooked up the radiator. Check out my youtube channel in my sig to see video.

What do you use instead of the hyfaxes? I have a hard enough time keeping my hyfaxes lubricated in the winter on hard packed snow!

Lots more bogie wheels. Here are just a few pics that I have taken durring the conversion. Still havent ran it in the sand yet so not sure on how everything is going to hold up but I should know in just a couple of weeks.

I forgot to upload this picture as well. We have put on a couple K&N filters.

My biggest concern is getting sand on the clutches.

Welcome to 2004. did that stuff on 6 different sleds (Poo & Cat, 4 & 2stroke, boosted and N/A).
Fun waxing high-end quads in their element...

Since you have done this before, What are some of the issues that I may have overlooked? Also did you get sand on the clutches and destroy them or were they ok?

I'd at LEAST put some outerwears on those filters, if it were me I wouldn't use K&N at all. I've seen too many ruined motors thanks to those filters letting WAY too much sand in. I don't care how much they claim to filter just as well as regular foam or paper filters, if they flow more air with the same amount of surface area, it is because the holes are bigger letting more dirt and sand thru. Just my $.02

Thanks for the heads up. I will look into that more.

only thing that comes to mind is "why"?

Because he wants to. Haven't you ever heard of the phrase, "to each his own"? I work with many people that golf 3 days a week and spend thousands of dollars on clubs and golf balls. In my mind it is crazy, I've golfed before and was bored out of my mind, but to them it is the best thing there is. My boss is into bicycle road racing and has an all carbon fiber frame that I think he paid $5000 for. When he told me that, I asked if for that price it didn't really come with a motor. I think he's nuts to spend that, but I also know lots of people that think I'm nuts to spend what I do in time and money on my sled. To each his own. I admire all the work and thought that this guy has put into making a sled run on sand, would I ever do it?, not in a million years because I'd rather ride my CRF in the sand, but again to each his own. Respect everyone elses interests and maybe, just maybe, they'll respect yours.
