Snowmobile Lift

Built one last year and I think I was into it around $150 by the time I was done. I used all new steel so you could save if you have any odds and ends laying around. Have not bought any steel for awhile so don't know if prices are up or down from last year.

Anyone know if steel has gone up or down over the last year? I was hoping it would be somewhere around the $150 range. Did you just use the plans that you can google online or did you design your own?

I built one last year at school. I paid a little less than $75 dollars in metal and about $30 on a jack.

I built one this last summer all though i all ready had the metal laying around the ranch but i spent a little extra and bought a heavier jack than what i really needed. But still only spent about 60 dollars on that. I used the plans that i found on the internet and they were fine, i did though instead of using 1x3 in rectangular tubing for the uprights i used 1x1 tubing, just make sure its at least 8 guage tubing, and its plenty strong enough, ive had all my sled up on it and havent had a problem. Another thing you want to watch for when your buying your jack is that you have to have enough travel, depending on how high you want your sled off the ground. For mine to be fully extended and to set low enough on the ground to get under your sleds you have to have more than 10 inches of travelin your jack. I looked up the jack i bought from Northern tool it has 15 inches of travel, 5000lb capacity and cost 44.99 +shipping.

I used the plans that I got off of the net and they worked great. Did a few modifications for my personal preferences. I would definitely go with a little heavier jack. Something about lifting like a "scissor jack" puts a lot of stress on the jack. It lifts my Nytro just fine and is really stable when I am working on it.

Another thing i did that really helped if you have pneumatic tools such as an air impact wrench is i removed the handle from the jack and welded a 5/8th in nut to the stud on the top of the jack and then i can use my air wrench to jack it up and down. Sure is a lot easier and faster than cranking it.

45.00 IN MINE had to do some minor mods after having a yammy on it for 5 days
