Finally!! We've managed to convince the Govt. to do a economic study of snowmobiling in the Sea To Sky corridor.I been at a ton of meetings lately with land use officials and they have commissioned a couple of SFU grad students to perform a study of area usage and rider visits as well as how much money is being brought into the area through local hotels, gas and service shops.

They are starting to realize that there is some money in snowmobiling,so if you are approached by people asking about snowmobile activity,be as forthgiving with your info as you can.The more info the better the picture and hopefully we can start showing the skinny skiers that we contribute much more than pollution. So take some time to answer their questions and above all,,,,be nice to them.

Thank you fellow sledders,,,we're in this together.

I hope for your sake they actually use the economic analysis once it is done. We had that done on the Payette forest here in Idaho, once completed by the University of Idaho it showed how much of an economic impact sledding (7mil in direct sales and 2 mil in wages) had to the area. The forest service chose to ignore the analysis due to the fact in their words that it "was not within the scope", whatever that ment, anyway when the perferred option (E) was presented we (those who sled) threw a fit and still are, it seems now the forest supervisor is at least looking at the bigger picture and might consider the economic factors. Good luck in your fight.

Out of al the years i have seen no more that 10 people access any of the backcounrty areas we ride by skiing in.Lots access via sleds for sure, but i hope they dont think the xc skiers spend more in the sea to sky economy than we do.Look at the parking lots on the weekend...outta control, all the gas spent, lodging and tons of visitors from the states. We should provide the best information possible to these students to prove we need to be here and our areas are safe!Closing Callaghan sucks, can't understand the huge no go zone in the Alpine!

We just need to keep harping at them,we're working at it from this end.People need to join clubs and get themselves counted.

That is excellent news, I will be in contact with you after the holiday season. I have letters into 5 universities for the exact same study on our town. Income tax, down to the last dishwasher and a report of how much the the gov really makes off us.
