Skier killed in avalanche identified

SNOWMASS (AP) - A skier who was killed by an avalanche outside the Snowmass ski resort boundary has been identified as Keith Ames.
His hometown wasn't available. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center listed his age as 43.
The Pitkin County Sheriff's Department says Ames was killed Wednesday. The Aspen Times reports he was on Burnt Mountain east of the boundary with two acquaintances. He is believed to be the first avalanche death of the season in Colorado.
The slide was below tree line at an elevation of about 10,500 feet.
