Looking at making the trek to the snowies Dec,18-22,23 looking for a good place to stay for 5-6 guys preferably one cabin. Coming from North Dakota so probably want to stay on the east side if possible. Also whats a good route to take if leaving from Jamestown,ND area? mapquest has us going through the black hills not sure if that's a good idea seems like it would take forever to get through there. any help would be appreciated!

We're staying up at Mountain Meadow Cabins that weekend and I know they have a cabin or two that could accommodate you. They might be booked but it's worth a shot. We'll be in a 4 person cabin and I know they hold 5 people with a futon. Brent and Mira down at Winter Creek Condos are great to deal with to. If you get a cabin up top with Mountain Meadows don't be afraid to stop by for a beer at the end of day.

We've got those days available at Albanycabins.com. Ride from the door, park at the cabin (unless you want to experience the Albany Parking lot), and just a short crawl from the lodge. Check us out and let us know.

I can help with that route. Last Sept on way to Steamboat Springs, CO thru Laramire, I first took the route thru Black Hills per mapquest and it took quite long drive thru winding road at slower speed so on return trip, I took little different route before Black Hills and found it better route even thou it is about 18 extra miles but saved me about 45 minutes of driving. When you hit I-90 after Belle Fouche, take exit toward Gillette, WY and go west for about 15 minutes until exit 187 to go on Hwy 585 south which will take you to Four Corners at Hwy 85 bypassing the Black Hills vicinity... Be sure you fill gas at either Belle Fouche or Spearfish or maybe Newcastle, WY because no service on long stretch of Hwy 85 approx 80 miles all way south to Lusk, WY

By the way, I was born in Gackle many years ago and grew up near Fredonia! Now living in Bismarck for 28 years

Im not sure of your driving route but you should definitely stay with Chris at Mountain Meadow Cabins they are great. real nice staying on the mountain. make a trip down for fuel, bring a five gallon container for each sled. Stop on your way through Laramie and get groceries for as many days that your gonna be up. They have everything you need there. even coffee makers.

back to topic we always take interstate. sense you are heading south and west i would take interstate west than get on interstate that goes through casper and to cheyenne and onto snowies. that is if roads are good.

Go south of Rapid City on 79 to Hot Springs then take 18 to Lusk then go west on 20 to interstate 25

I go to Las vegas ones per year with our Semi and from minnesota to Vegas the Direction above is the way to go for sure ....Good roads and just a few towns to go thru ....And you can avoid most of Rapid City now by getting off where the Flying j truck stop is and head south ....I think the Flying J is at the 62 Mile Marker/exit

Since the directions was asked about Black Hills vicinity so that is why my directions are only portion of the trip so after Lusk, be creative with routes to Laramie as there are several ways to get there so during winter season, sometimes travelers are forced to take alternate routes so really I cant help from there after Lusk...

No, I dont know Schroeders, but I do know few between Gackle and Fredonia such as Janke, Wolf, Geiszler, Schulz, and Wilens... We farmed 7 miles NW of Fredonia and my siblings went to Lehr school.
