me and two other guys are heading out next wed for a week and have never been to the snowies but are going to try it. just wondering if someone could help me out on what area to find the steep and deep and maybe a fairly close place to stay i realise no one wants to give out there secret spots but any help would be great we have rode cooke, togwotee and the bighorns bout ten times each and just looking for a new place to try
thanks

the snowies

the snowy area is so big that even if you know all the good areas you may still find places that seem like you are all alone. Coming from MN you will most likely stay on the east side, park at Greenrock Parking area and head in. Try to find lodging in Centennial, Wy. which is the base of the mountains and very close to the fun. Get a map at The Friendly Store, of the area, Southeast Wyoming. Lots of places to go, depending on what you like. Usually head in on "U" trail/ hwy 130 across libby flats till it drops down and turn left toward Lake Marie nice climbing hills here. At lake marie to left is a big hill/ potty hill and to the left of that is a crossover to the backside, shortcut to the powder and to N trail. A million places to go and million places on how to get there. CAUTION: Do not drop in south of U trail from Lake Marie to V trail.

LAST WED.

Not for sure of the names of the two guys operrating boosted Nitros that followed me down the right side of south french creek last wed but that was awesome . You guys pulled out a little earlier than the rest of the captive group but I assumed it had something to do with no headlite on those sleds .Thanks for taggin along guys and hope to meet up again .Not just anyone goes in that area, I cant wait to get back in there.:face-icon-small-coo

Oh yeah almost forgot did the hand warmers work for the guy on the rev that had cold feet ?

north vs. south

South french creek is the problem, people drop in between Lake Marie and V Trail ( Silver lake). It is very steep getting back out this way, or very tree intense most ways( like pulling paint and plastic). crossing the creek area is difficult because the banks are steep and deep. it takes hours of navigation or like some you spend the night in a snowlodge. V trail follows North French Creek, part of the way. you can drop down from W trail and get back out usually, its just the Silver Lake Area that can be a trap. Dont get me wrong, i love climbing this hill, but it is not an area for anyone new or late in the afternoon, depending on snow.

Yes, this is the area your mother warned you about. I dont think track length has anything to do with it though. I just think it is the area YOU NEED TO BE AWARE OF, so you dont wander in at the end of day. its what i call a terrain trap......

And you didn't get them stuck?

I think the area you are talking about is called 7 fools and as being on search and rescue in the snowies we do find several people stuck or unable to get out of there. As stated before, not a place for beginners or late afternoon riding. I have helped seasoned riders out just because of the conditions. They were good riders and had plenty of sled just was major ugly. Think before heading into that area.

me and my buddy found our way into 7fools and rode part of a day in there last weekend with headlight deep pow what a blast if you like tecknicall thats the place to go

yup yup I can agree too that... 7 fools is pretty techie... we had to leave a sled out there overnight last year, 3 of us rode out the next morn... some of the best riding that I have ever experienced in the meadow below that hill tho' :face-icon-small-win

an easier way to drop down is just to the left of the climbing hills up on the trail by the guard rail... drop down on the (south ?) side of the big hill, down to the creek.
