Snowest virus?

Yup got it on both my work and home computers. Not the first time this has happened either on this site. Kind of odd to me that this is the only forum I pay to be on and the only forum I've ever got virus threats from...

i have also gotten a virus. kinda sucks but for some reason i still log on. im not super computer knowledgable but is there anything to look for before it attacks?

Thats what that was. I hope the virus didn't stick, I shut my down right when it went to the scan thing.

This showed up last Friday on the Harris servers.
I saw it and alerted them.
They told me on Moday, that it had been dealt with.
If your seeing it again today, then I will contact them and let them know they did NOT kill it.

I am an Antivirus Engineer for a fortune 500 company. I say this so you can believe what I am going to tell you.

When you see this fakealert hit ALT-F4 until it goes away. Don't click on anything else as that usually activates it. Also, if you forget the ALT-F4 just go to START and shut your computer down, then restart.

If you get this virus, you will usually need to reboot in SAFE mode and run a full scan with a good antivirus program. Be aware some polymorphic virus will even evade this fix.

Todays information stealing virus/worm programs are mostly written professionaly and can be a real pain to remove. Back your stuff up often and if you do get one of these virus you might just rebuild your system and restore your backed up files.

Thanks for the great info. Another thing from what I have read here lately is that there is a high virus threat level right now... I've seen things like this trying to come from quite a few different sites.
