Those of you who are against the cost obviously have NO clue on how a "business" is ran. Nothing worth while is free. Many of the younger generation have no clue on the concept of work. All I have to say is if you do not like it, don't pay. The rest of us will help keep this forum running. The info I receive here is well worth my 10 bucks.

so if nothing worth while is free, then should snowest not pay for the information provided by members that they are going to start to sell? should it not work both ways?

Me personally, and the way I run my business is very simple, I do the work, I get the profit, I would not sell something that others were donating their time and give to me for free, I think this is a big part of the problem.

What about having a family discount especially with more than one person in the household with memberships here. Now for my 16 year old and myself and my wife it would be expensive to be on the forum now. What are you doing about this?

That has been addressed. :) The price is per household.

Sandy

what i cant understand is that why so many of these so called diehard snowest members that love/loved this site so much are so quick to kick it to the curb.

Because we can do the same thing for free elsewhere. If you had 2 of the same thing sitting in front of you and one was ten bucks and the other was free....which one would you pick?

The forum is NOT a business.

Christopher, Can you change the forums back to the way they were before you got involved and then go back to your website and make that one "better" instead of ruining the snowest forum? Your arrogance is not needed and i can actually say i will enjoy seeing you fail.

What a shame to have this happen to such a good forum and meeting place..

I'm off to buy a dynotech membership and hang out at D**talk...

PEACE!!!!!!!!!

I'll gladly buy a three year tour if the site adds a 19th "cool thing"......How about an automated grammar feature that can distinguish between "your" and "you're"??????:face-icon-small-hap

and a 20th, giving out awards for people that point out spelling mistakes

Site changes to SW.....

I tried to get through all the messages on the thread you put up, but I don't have enough Advil to keep up with all the hoopla.

We have been supporting our own website for several years and am constantly amazed at how big a pain in the butt they are, especially for an organization like ours that is 100% volunteers. Lots of Alaskans have been participating and posting on the SW site for years and have benefited much more than I can voice. Moderating a snowmobile board has to be one of the most thankless postions in the universe. Our board of directors have been discussing this matter for quite some time now, we can take this direction as a part of our continued discussion.

I for one will be the first to sign up for the three year deal (less than a tank of gas where I am from) and never look back. And don't for a minute think that I will not advocate a presence for our association in that eventual section. The active riders from Alaska deserve a quality forum that they can participate in. Thanks again.

Not really posting this to be open for discussion, just letting you know that I for one, will not be paying dues to stay active on the forum... i don't have time to 'fight' for it and try to convince you otherwise right now, all i have time to say is it will be sad to see the old snowest go, goods and bads... guess I'll catch those of you I know on some other forum down the road....

Wow, a RISKY PLAY on Snowest's part,,, They are in the VERY inviable position to have the customers and members, and they CAN"T make a business plan using advertising that works,,, I fear they may loose out to other free sites that can put together advertising that can cover their ISP and hardware costs,,, AMSNOW tried it, and their member's site was always empty,,, It's a huge gamble on their part. I am surprised that they can't get advertisers to cover their costs,,, the new media is the internet, the advertisers should be after that, paper mags are dead, info is always on the web long before paper, and like others said, the content comes from the members,,, Oh well time will tell,,, But I think they must be carefull not to shoot themselves in the foot.

If there is a charge beyond the magazine subscription I will Move on....Also I will cancel my subscription! if the fourm #s are down Dont think charging is gonna solve anything! Its been fun Boys see ya on the other sites!

As you can see I'm more of a lurker then a poster. I get more info out of snowest then I give. I'm not a bells and whistles person, between work and the kids wanting attention I only have time to check snow conditions and a few other things.
$15 a year (because I would only buy one year at a time) is really not that much money for the info you get on this site, BUT $15 here, $30 to local club, $20 to SAWS, $20 to Blue ribbon, $50 to that club for their raffle, $20 to the state raffle, $100 to ACSA for raffle on sleds,$20 for that magazine, $300 beacan and shovel a $1000 ABS pack, etc., etc.. I also hunt for a hobby and the list goes on for more subscriptions and donations. I have cut out other hobbies so I can afford the two I love most. The saying if you can afford $50,000 for truck, sled, trailer and equipment you can afford $10 for this or that is beat to death. Need to add $10,000 to the $50,000 just for this and that's.
I can afford the $10 but I probably won't. Most of the good info people are in private forums and they don't post in the general areas anyways.

how do you know that you can do the same thing, when the 2 things are not sitting in front of you, people keep saying that they can get the same thing for free when this thing has not even come out yet. Thats my whole point nobody even knows how this is going to work in the real world yet not even SW, only thing they know is theoretical.
