Snowbiking in BC has to wait for me

So, I had a hip replacement about a month ago.. And luckily, I seem to be healing properly. I've bought a new long track Mountain Horse, and have all the time in the world to put it on.

I've got my 500XCW all ready to accept the new kit, got the old kit spoken for.. Sold off my Husaberg 390 dirt bike.. and I can't think of anything except snow riding! I'm under doctors orders not to ride for another 2 months, this is going to be the longest 2 months of my life!

Anyway, I will be taking my bike into the dealer this week to get the ECU re-programmed to the Euro spec, so that I can tune it more effectively. Has anyone else here done this already?

I have the JD tuner, which does squat until the ECU is unlocked if you didn't know.

Has anyone used the XC1 KTM tool to log data of your ride to know if your actually rich or lean at a given setting? I plan on doing that this year, but if someone else has already done it I might be able to start closer to a good setting.

Why do you say the jd tuner doesn't work without changing the ecu settings? I put one on my 500 exc and desmogged it. Made a huge difference. Maybe it could be better doing what you say but mine sure runs great.

After I get the Euro program installed, I'll post up some feedback. I tried the full range of adjustments on the tuner, and I can't tell one ounce of difference between the 2 fully adjusted ends.. Anyway, I've been told that once the ECU is upgraded for true off-road use the tuner will affect jetting and timing, until then the switch for hard/soft and tuner do nothing.. With that said, I hope this works, I'd like a bit more out of my 500. It runs great, but it's not quite as powerful as a 450mx'er

I'm really interested to see how the 500 works on the snow. I love my 450 but there's a 500 EXC in my near future. SM in the summer snowbike in the winter then maybe pick up a 300 for single track.

Ps. I have the XCW, not the EXC. I don't have all of the emission stuff to delete. The 500 runs smooth and starts easy. It just doesn't have the rev-out ability that a 450mx'er has, nor the quick revving that the 450's do. With that said, I love my 500 and do have all of last season on it. I'm just going to be tweaking it to make it hopefully 5-10% better.
