Snowbike brake question

How well do the brakes work on snowbikes being exposed to snow? Do they ice up? No problems at all? Minor annoyances?

I don’t own a snowbike, but I want to mount a brake on the driveshaft inside the tunnel on a project sled. Would like to use the small Wilwood spot caliper and a 7” rotor on either a hex hub or keyed hub on the driveshaft.

I’m just curious if I’d be wasting my time.

Thanks

The brake on a snowbike will ice up but if you apply it for a second or two its ok. Like a bit of a lag.

brake in snow..............oooooh

brakes disc exposed to constant snow is an issue, you need to keep the snow off the disc. When cat decided their race sleds should have the brakes on the drive shaft, it was humiliating , took two grabs on the lever to have brakes on a good day, I didn't believe that so when I built two custom sleds I put the brake on the drive shaft down in the snow where it was sure to run cool, oh yeah,.............no, oh no, bad deal, no brakes on the first grab, I learned and lived with it, but never did that install again.

Snow bikes the same, Timbersled had no first grab brakes, then they shrouded the disc to keep snow off, work ok that way.
