...significant mountain snowfall is possible monday...

The first significant mountain snowfall of the season is forecast to
occur monday afternoon into tuesday. A strong cold front will bring
cooler air into the region with snow levels lowering down to around
4000 feet across the olympics and north and central cascades monday
afternoon. This means stevens pass...white pass...and washington
pass will likely get snow. The snow level will lower to around 3000
feet monday night with snow also possible at snoqualmie pass. The
forecast calls for 4 to 12 inches of snow through tuesday
morning...with heavier amounts possible between stevens and
snoqualmie pass as a puget sound convergence zone develops.

Snow showers will continue into tuesday...with the snow level
dropping even further.

If you are planning travel in or through the mountains early next
week...check the weather forecast before you go.

Significant snowfall.. REALLY? They're really calling "up to a foot of snow" in a 48hr period significant? That's just plain dumb. Three feet of snow in a 48hr period would qualify as significant if you ask me.

** not that I'm complaining about the fresh snow!! **

A foot of snow sounds better than an inch of rain or nothing at all right now. Bring it on mother nature, lets see what you have you b!@(h.

Don't get me wrong I'm as EXCITED about the new snow. Just maybe the report could have said something like:

"Information has been obtained from inside information that both Graveller and Fordman dolls are safely locked away in Blindman's freezer. Beginning overnight Sunday is what we expect to be normal winter conditions in the mountains and mountain passes. Freezing temperatures above 3000ft and snow are the norm. Occasional periods of clear blue skies will be present but will be preceded by heavy snowfalls"

That's not too much to ask of the Nat'l Weather Svc is it?

Snow depth

Not to interrupt those of you who have soiled your pants over hearing about up to a foot of snow. Can you say CONVERGENT ZONE? Yes that area in the cascades between stevens and snowqualmie will be seeing the most inches of snow. According to NOAA.

Sunday Night Update

Came over the pass (HWY 2) around 11pm 34 degrees at the top no snow, not even a mix; the good news is that it was 37 at the Cabin 2000'. The switch to colder temps in Eastern WA is here!

By the way; I was playing with adding the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, the Sun's effect, to my snow estimate... the late 70s' to late 80's fit perfectly and you can tell that the SPO (La Nina & El Nino) accounted for the # of storms that explained the snowfall amounts... We are entering the cooling cycle of this PDO (sun activity) although it is not as clear as the warm PDO. My previous prediction of 93% normal snowfall (125" in Plain WA) I feel is a conservative estimate and might be a better indicator of the bottom error bar rather than the extrapolated mean estimate, given the PDO!!! I will re-look after the November 5th NOAA update.

Mt. Baker Ski Area Snow Report

Sunday Oct. 25, 2009
Hi Skiers and Snowboarders,
NOAA just issued the words we've been waiting for: "winter storm warning"! As of Sunday night, it is very stormy at the Heather Meadows base area, with 1/2 inch of new snow on the ground, 32 degrees and winds gusting up to 40 mph. Forecasts are calling for freezing levels to drop to 4,000 Monday morning and 3,000 feet by Monday night, with 6 to 12 inches of snow forecasted for Monday and Tuesday! The storms are forecasted to keep rolling in after that, with snow showers expected off and on through Friday. It would sure be great to close out October with snow on the ground!

We will be updating this report according to the schedule below, and will also periodically post photos at the bottom of the page. So keep checking back as the weather turns wintry and we get ready to start the 2009-10 season!

As I sat this morning having coffee, I kept having a recurring thought.... "Thank God I cleaned the gutters yesterday".

Looks like a good day to go fishing, or work inside, or surf SW...:D

I looked at my gutters this morning and thought...I'll get the kids up there after school......:D

Maybe we should do some networking at the NBBG around noon or so.....if you're not out getting wet. I'll call it a "sales" call.....:D:beer;
