I,m considering purchase, I was told they are a handfull on setup snow? Also that they were incrediable in powder. Can someone describe what to expect on icy and also packed trail snow?I need a clear understanding, If you can compare it to sleds in simular conditions I can comprehend better. Thanks Guys

snow hawk ride

hi there,,nice to see more people with the snowhawk bug...i got my 600 last winter and wow this is one of the best winter toys ever...when your in deep snow the snowhawk does straight line and jumps very much like a dirtbike but when your carving in the pow it feels a lot like riding a big 2 seater waverunner..just amazing.yes the hawk is not a fan of hard packed icy trails you can ride on just about anything but the ice and rough icy trails are more difficult the ski tends to slide in corners and rough icy trail can grab that ski and try to pull the bars out of your hand...that being said with a little practice the hawk can conqure all icy hard pakcked stuff just takes a bit more effort...i have a 2009 dragon 800 running a boondocker turbo and ive got to say that if i had purchased my hawk 1st i probably wouldent have bought the sled...snowhawks ARE that much fun....peace

Good report. Are they able to pick through the trees with precission and at what speed do you need to be at to be stable. Is it like a dirt bike arourd 8 mph and all is well. How about down hill in deep snow and braking,I assume you just lay it on its side a bit like a sled to slow down?I will most likely be the only snowhawk riding with sleds,Is that a good mix.Its all boondocking and climbs? Thanks -as I know nothing!

Just have to smile!

Imagine if more realized that last statement, what would Polaris do with all those unwanted COUCH's?:face-icon-small-win

I primarily ride trails and all conditions other than ice provide an amazing ride. You have to have the trail adaptor and snow tracker kit and then the ski sticks to the trail like it's on rails.

Just like a motorcycle or bicycle you need a little speed to be stable. Once you're over 10mph you're golden. Picking through the trees is easier from the aspect that it's a narrower machine than a sled, but you need to maintain some speed and be decisive with your actions. Now what exactly does picking through the trees mean. In tight conditions a snowbike would be better, but I imagine you're not talking too tight or sleds would be having trouble in that type of area.

If you have a dirtbike back ground you will love the Hawk and learn it very quickly. If you don't have a motorcycle background you probably should rent one before buying just to make sure that it's right for you.

Let us know if you have any more questions on your new hawk. What are you getting? Where are you using it? Also, search for the other forum. Most of the Hawk guys have moved there. I can't say where because they would delete my post.

I will be riding 7 to 10,000 ft, in the sierras C.A.. Its a 05 121 and will probable stretch to 144?after riding it a bit. Has drop brackets , Hand warmers. Tach, ski carbides and studs right now. I am assuming 144 will be a good legnth for the powder?
