Snow Flaps? What are you running?

F
Just wondering if anyone is running long snowflaps, or other custom flaps.

I was out at the Snoshow in Utah 2 years ago and saw some cool custom stuff.

Just trying to get ideas for my RMK

-Dusty

I've got a custom one...

You guys realize that those silly flaps weigh a lot right? After what I spend to lose weight on my sled, NO WAY in WISCONSIN that kinda crap is hanging on the back of my sled!!!

I guess that's fine if you only ever ride in powder. You put your sled away in March then?

Kaleb (backcountryislife), I, and many others were riding powder well past March this year. Not in WI like he is saying, but where we ride in CO/WY. Some of the best and deepest days came in April and May. Here are a few pics from June 13th 2010.

I keep thinking I'll have time to build the one I want but never do. That day more weight was an advantage. Also the day the PC proved to be just as good or better than the CE on ICE going up and nearly as good going down.

Late April

I know that this spring was when all the snow came. But most yrs aint that way. Riding in anything less than powder w/o a flap is a recipe for meltdown. ESPECIALLY for big lug tracks as we tend to throw that slushy stuff right out the back rather than bring it on around to the coolers.

Nice posts fellas. Im liking the custom stuff like the JD and kenworth flaps. I'm trying to find a vintage "Land of 10,000 Lakes" one, cause im from Minnesota.

Where I ride in SW Colorado, its hard to ride without flaps and scratchers because its usually a couple miles of trails until you can hop off into the backcountry.

Good pow pics 2.0

I agree that for most stockers you need a flap. In my case my mod has never seen a snow flap. I run a high quality U-cooler and never see temps over 150 deg F. I do also run ice scratchers when on the trail. No need to recycle the snow unless you really need to... know your sled and what you can get away with. Good luck.

In Cooke I ride 7 miles of trail, Up the beartooths probably more than that. The only time My sled got hot was after riding over a 1/4 mile of asphalt and the rest was hard! snow to get up the road. The slush is not a cooling problem with the powerclaw, it will throw the snow on your back literally.
