Snow conditions

Rode up there today. Dropped into Jefferson area, and all I can say is don't bother going back there yet. Everything that has snow is starting to slide and all the other 'lower-risk' play areas are still riddled with hidden gems. The wind that came through smoothed out most the snow so you can't see any lumps for rocks anymore. They are literally 2-3" under the snow and there is no warning that they are there because it is all smooth.

We did climb on 1 smaller hill for a few runs, but that was probably risking too much. Saw a bunch of others climbing stuff that no one should have been on, but as always, there is an abundance of riders back there that are following tracks not knowing where they really lead.

I will continue to head south until they get a lot more snow up there. Bounced off way too many rocks today to risk going back for more. The snow stick between Harriman and Ashton hill was right at 2'. That's about what you can look forward to in most areas.

We were the guys towards hell roaring climbing where we shouldnt have been. The closer we would get towards jefferson the scarier it got. However were finally starting get good snow.

I have a bad feeling we will be hearing about Jefferson in the news before too long. Low snow conditions, bad/weak layers, and tons of wind loading. Sounds like a repeat of '09/'10 all over again. Hopefully it starts snowing somewhere other than Canada. Might just have to race all year instead of spending money on crappy freeriding trips.

We also dropped into Hell Roaring from Reas Peak. We stayed off of Mount J pretty much completely because we saw to smaller slides that had already slid.

Coming down into the Canyon the Butt Crack had 3 places that had already slid. As fun as Jefferson is it's not a good place to ride right now.

Be dang careful and stay away from the steep stuff in there if you do go.

Its just NOT WORTH THE RISK right now.

But then, is it EVERY really worth the risk?

There is always another place to ride or another time to ride.
