snoqualmie pass

Its deep and its dangerous. Be careful.

Went to Stampede yesterday. Snow is very deep (3-4ft) and very heavy down low. The higher you go, the better and better it got. There were only a few other peeps on the hill...many were having issues just getting up the first set of power lines. Every trail on the hill needed to be broken. We did a pretty good job on as much as we could in a few short hours and a full tank of gas.:cheer2:

I want to SERIOUSLY STRESS the avy danger. Many of us are used to blazing the trails to our favorite stashes thinking they are "safe". Worse yet, they think that areas like Stampede "really dont have slides". Ive seen many there over the years. ALWAYS BE AWARE of what you are going into and what is above you. Keep your distance between riders. Keep an eye on each other. I know its hard when you are full throttle, heart pounding, all excited trying to simply break a trail, but pay attention.

FOR INSTANCE: on the main trail back to the microwave/cell towers, a big fresh slide broke and came down and buried the road. It was 200ft long, about 15 ft deep. And, it isnt done coming down yet. It was a 4ft fracture/sheer that slid right off of the ice layer it couldnt bond to.

We saw many slides that had broken a day earlier across various main trails. And, Its still snowing up there.

Needs groomed something fierce:
There was a snowcat of some type up there earlier the prior day that put down a set of fat tracks on some of the lower trails towards the power lines, lost lake, to the king bowl and around through to Stampede backside. Perfectly spaced to fight your sled every step of the way (unless enough sleds go through it and beat it down).

Have a hoot.

-hope
