Snowmobile falls in crevasse extended edit from the extreme sports dvd “Revival” from Black Sprockett Productions.

While sight seeing rider drove over snow covered crevasse in Kakwa mountains and fell 85 feel to bottom. Snowmobile was wedged approximately 15 feet above where rider landed.
When a second rider arrived on scene and attempted to get closer to the hole, one of his legs fell through, fortunately he was able to pull himself to safety. Crevasse was completely covered with snow and became more visible the following week when snowmobile was retrieved.

Big thanks to those involved

Guardian Snow Angel?

Guardian Snow Angel?

Agreed !!!

I have seen a few things over time and this ranks as one lucky guy ..... Reminds me off the sled video where the sledder falls off his rig slides 60 feet and falls 80 plus and lived to tell about it

BUT I think the Crevasse Man was luckier !

Do we snowmobilers have a Patron Saint ????

Who do we ask ???? The Pope ? LDS ? 700 club .... I know snowtrak TV.

Really making it thru a hazardous situation like falling thru a Crevasse has to do with the correct amount and placement of stickers on the sled.

So at the end of video it is said 10 or so feet further he would have been a goner? Why ... too deep or gas venting?

Would have gone over the edge of the ice fall

Those of us who ride on glaciers a lot learn to read them and avoid those areas where the crevices are most prevalent. It is also an excellent idea to view the glacier in the summer to help you identify the crevice fields. In a nut shell though; whenever the ice angle changes it will crack (crevice) to relieve the stress. Also whenever it makes a corner (the outside of the corner will have bigger deeper and more frequent cracks (crevices).

Additionally; wind events will cause a snow layer to form a bridge across the opening of the crevice. Often at elevation this layer can be very thin, as thin as a few snow flakes thick.

Dangerous for certain, but a necessary evil to get from place to place in the mountains of Alaska where the glacier is often the only path between the vertical rock faces of our mountains.

Glad the outcome was a good one! Many are not so fortunate.

That brings bad some bad memories for me when I fell into a 70 foot deep one back in 1999 and almost died! I am so careful now when I ride on glaciers!
I would never want to re-live my near death experience!
