Who uses a web based trail report?

Is there a generic software or webpage for grooming reports on a website?

Why .... the local forest service wants to use one to update the trail report conditions.

Maybe post them on local sled club sites and grant access to the groomer (in my case a government employee) so we know what is going on with the trails.

Several times on a couple trails I went to (drive time several hours) and was supposed to be recently or gonna be groomed that day but was not because of conditions. An online trail report will help alleviate this uncertainty or confusion prior to driving to the trail.

contact me offline for some GUESSES at what might be tried next year here in McCall.

if you go to www.secesh.net, click on snowmobile grooming in upper left.

a local lady spends a LOT of time reading sheriff's dispatch reports in order to get what actually got done. We very much appreciate her, and want to make it easier for next year.

IMO, the problem is that after a 14 hour run, the last thing an operator wants to do is call someone and explain where they ended up going. And, not everyone is up at 4:30 am or whenever they get done to receive the phone call. Then you have to somehow get the info distributed.

To complicate things, many areas we groom don't have cell coverage. It all adds up to harder then it sounds.

Wouldn't it be easier to use a GPS unit and just dump the tracks to a map or image stored online for folks to see at the end of the grooming cycle?

Rick the F/S operator does this in Mammoth and is working on a program to dump the GPS track onto the trail map!! I usually report when I get home to the CNSA website on where I went,snow conditions, hazards and temps!! etc etc.. sometimes its 3am but doesnt take that long!!:D:beer;:beer;

One of our customers has a live timing thing for their club which then is posted on the website, and through local radio on a daily basis. I know the equipment was expensive but they feel it was worth it. Basically it's a GPS set up and the driver logs when he starts, stops, takes a break and so on and all of that is taken and then reported what got done and when it got done.

I don't know the website but I know the club and the contact info if you are interested in talking to them about this. They have 480 miles of trail to groom with 5 groomers and everyone of them is out 5 out of 7 days if not 7 out of 7.

Give me a PM and I will get you the 411.

The GPS has some problems in tree area and loses signal at time. Even in heavy snow fall the GPS will note work in a days run. Been there and done that its not perfect. All its does makes problems between the states and cat owners. Now if the State wood let the Operators update there webpage it wood not be a big deal.

Better antenna maybe? Base units seem to be of less quality in terms of reception. The handheld units of today very rarely have that problem any more at least from my expierence with them.
