Ya that's right. I broke yesterday on a ride and made it off the mtn with some help and a little creative thinking. Here's the story (and I'm stickn to it)
- driving in the pwdr on the side of a well used trail...BANG!!! I hit something (unseen) with the front right side and almost stop me from 30ish. Well, almost stopped the sled, I kept going...off the side and on to a helmet checking backward flop. haha
got up checked the sled. looked fine even though I thought the NUN would be damaged or something... nothing noted. Pals checked on me.. fine. Lets ride.
- Maybe 1/2 miles later starting to feel normal again and side hill up through some pow (passing my cat riding friends) and just at the top BANG!!! really hard this time... and I'm airborne again. This time the landing is soft pwdr so that was good. I look back at the sled and its laying over on the right side... only bad thing, the right ski is behind it by about 5 feet !!! "holy cr**" I think is what came out first. ha
- So I think "thats it, I'll be taking the front off sure now" but nooooo (luckily) for some reason the tree that I was blasting over grabbed the ski and snapped the spindle just above the attachment. I've never seen that trick before.
No obvious damage to A-arms, NUN or other support bracket... just the spindle. So we rigged it by re-locating the mount bolt and spacers on the ski to the next webbing hole in the spindle and I limped it off the mtn.
Now I have to buy an $80 (approx) part and do the dance of joy because I didn't get hurt and the repair will be cheap and fast... the cat guys did their share... last count was an M1000 belly pan and an M8 ski/carbides ... I guess we need a littl more snow in the trinity mtn area.
Anybody have an extra spindle they wanna get rid of?
see ya on the hill
