 What a moron move for one of the best drivers in Nascar. Going to Hass CNC:eek: watch for him to fall on his face.... HARD!!! Going from a proven organization to on who can't even get cars in the show week to week, come on. IMO he and Gibbs should have worked out an ownership deal similar to what Gordon and Hendrick did with the #48.

Guess I will be rooting for Logano now.

Smoke will do just fine. These teams are all about people, and Tony has proven in every other endeavor he's ventured into, that he brings in the right ones. You can't drive forever...

If Tony can't win he'll just drive into people ;)

He has enough talent to make some results. Haas doesn't have enough talent right now to be good enough. With Stewart there, he will get awesome funding from sponsorship and Chevy (he will become a Chevy sponsored driver again - like the 24, 48, 88..). He will be driving Hendrick chassis and engines. I really think that Nascar will tighten down on Toyota a little more sometime soon. They really opened the door for Toyota at the beginning of the season allowing slightly more HP. This is not a conspiracy, just how Nascar works in an attempt to keep all the makes competitive.

As for why he would do it? Well in addition to coming back to Chevy (which he wanted), he will have a say in day to day operations. He is looking at the long run where he will continue to be an owner when he retires. Plus...I don't think he likes Hamlin or Busch that much. I'm still waiting for the incident between those guys. More likely to happen now that he is leaving.

I hope you're right. The track record for driver/owners in nascar isn't exactly great, see Bill Elliott, Ricky Rudd, Darrell Waltrip, and Robby Gordon.

He doesn't need the 20 car to win. He is not having a great year at JGR this season, maybe a change is what he needs to get to the top again.

Tony

Dear Tony,
Your new partner is in Jail and the manufactuer of you car is on the verge of bankruptcy.

WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU THINKING?????????

Haha, GM isn't going anywhere, and he is going to take over that team not go in partnership because that is the way TSR operates. He bought out my cousins team completely and they were already proven successful but he wanted to call the shots as an owner and not have to persuade an owner who doesn't know cars. He will restructure everything like he does with all of his race teams he owns, and he will be fine.

Even if you don't like the guy, you can't knock him for being a great supporter of racing, and not just NASCAR but all the way back to dirt track. He is successful in all of his racing decisions, I don't think that he would make this big of a jump without looking at all the options, he knows what he is doing.

Yes Tony is VERY sucessful in everything he does. Good people and the right management can make any company thrive. But, going to Hass? With the owner in prison:rolleyes: don't make much sense to me. Had he pushed JGR a little harder I think they would have started a 4th team with Tony as 50-60% owner in that car. That would have been more logical than going to Hass. IMO.

++++1

all i know is that tony has taken a big step. he wanted to own a raceteam and just not be a driver, couldnt work that out at gibbs. hes gota chance to prove he can do this as well. dale senior drove and owned a race team and he done well with that. hope tony can and i think he will be just fine.might take alittle while though.i'll have to root for him wherever hes at.

btw, what does it matter if he's going to a team that is not currently successful or if the current owner is in jail. It is a two car team like he wanted and he can buy in cheap. He is turning everything around, EVERYTHING! He probably got a smokin deal on the buy in, and you know he will have no problems getting major sponsorship, or just run with TSR's Armor All.

I don't think it will take him long at all to be successful with that team, he already has the "in's" when it comes to the relationships he needs to be successful, ie. top of the line R&D parts, strong sponsors willing to give out money for a successful team, engineers and mechanics who know what they are doing, engine programs, etc.

Tony will be fine, and with him calling the shots now for both him and Ryan Newman, you will see both of them at the top before you know it....

TS

I read for Tony to get out of his contract with JG he had to sign a agreement that Tony and his partners could not go after any of JG employee's. (Typical contract stuff).

JG has no worries about losing people and they have Lagono. Great for JG.
Tony gets to be a owner pretty much for free. Great for Tony.

Everyone is happy.

Call me lazy or Chicken but I would have stayed with JG. They are the best team in NASCAR today. No driver/owner has won a race since Ricky Rudd something like 15 years ago. If my bank acount was full today I wouldn't be looking for any extra agravation.
