Smart carb or lectron carb for cr500

I'm building a cr500af snowbike and I am wondering what carb would be the best a smart carb or the lectron carb? also would a 40mm be fine?

40 mm would be fine... The key is a tunnel cooler... The smart carb will run flawlessly IF you have stabilized temps... With a tunnel cooler I was always between 90 and 170... I have had both... And they both are solid choices... If I was to do it again I might go Lectron because it has the adjustable power jet for top end cooling.. I ran an egt and on full 3 minute pinned pulls the egt temps would keep inching from the 12's to the 15s ... I was never able to test the Lectron on the Cr but ran it on other bikes.. my issue with it was you had to disassemble the carb to adjust the low end which your did not have to do on the smarty... I don't really think on a Snowbike your too worried about the low end like you would be on dirt. But man the smarty from winter to spring the egts were always in the 12's and never touched it once set. I run the smarty on all my summer bikes... Because of the low-end adjustment ease. Anyway you slice it weather is leap and bounds better than the stock carb in all the changing condition you get in the mountains ..

Lastly with meter carbs airflow is your friend so use a pod dry filter and get rid of the airbox... The more airflow you have the leaner yes that is right the leaner rod you can run... Once I went pod I was able to run the stock rod on the smarty instead if 2 richer with the airbox..

seems very counter-intuitive to me. interesting.

everything i have done with any carb is exactly opposite of your findings. the less pressure differential you have between your float bowl and airbox, the richer you need to be..unless your pod filter could actually be more restrictive?

Make sure to talk to the manufactures... I have always thought this is a critically important point that is not normally brought up. For my cr500 I ran 2 steps richer rod with the OEM airbox... With the pod filter I went back to the stock rod and ran 12's all day long.. it is a little different animal than a standard carb... Super counterintuitive. Note this was for the cr500 all the other bikes I have what they sent pretty much was plug and play.. besides a little adjustment. My engine set up also requires 100 octane... As for as the pod filter it is a dry filter.... So it flows... I had a loud mouth intake with a dry filter on the oem box before that.
