Sly Dog Skis

Anybody running sly dog skis on there M's? I put a set of white sly dog skis on the girlfriends 09 m8 snopro le last season with the 6 inch carbide. They dont seem to have any grab whatsover for turning on the trail or anywhere else that a ski should bite. I thought the stock M skis were bad but these ones are just as bad or worse. Excellent powder ski, but useless otherwise. Anybody else run in to this? Is there a more aggressive carbide for this ski ?Or should I just get rid of them and try the new 010 skis off my snowcheck on it ?

that sucks, i was looking at buying sly dogs and was hoping the trail performance was better than stock. I dont like how simmons steer on the trails (too much effort required) and have heard powder pros are kinda like that too.

I have been studying this topic quite a bit.

Yes, I have read that the Slydogs work great in the powder but, that's it.

The best skis for the M series is supposed to be the MODs. They are "supposed" to work very very well but, the hang up I have with them is they look dated and like someone built them in their shop.

The Powder Pros are "supposed" to be kind of the least of all evils. They work well on the trail but, may be a bit hard to turn and they work great in the powder.

The USI triple threats are supposed to be nice but, they aren't as wide as the other "powder" skis so I worry a bit about flotation.

Simmon's - some love the Gen I and some love the Gen II but, the Gen II really make the front end W I D E.

I wish Slydog would buy the rights to use the MODs ski design. Then we'd have a good looking ski that actually works!

I'm most inclined to try a set of Powder Pros at this point unless I hear of something better.

i saw MODS the first time on the internet yesterday and the mounts are huge, those things look like they weigh a ton. I think they are ugly too and there is no way i would put them on my sled, it looks like i will probably have to go with PP's if i get new skis.

What ski is it that you are using? Trail, race, Powderhound? I have the trail ski and they seem to do well on the trail, but i am also running a 9" carbide on my 09 crossfire 800sp (141" x1.5" track). They are without a doubt better than my stocker were, but not as precise as my c&a razors were.

I do like them, but really wished i went with the race ski. The trail ski is way too thin is spot. As you can see from the pic, i put a hole right through it... how the F does that happen ...??????? Oh, they dont cover that apparently.

They say you need top add ski pressure in order to get the Slydogs to work well on the trail. you need to tighten the limiter strap or loosen (?) the front spring in the rear skid and it will give the skis more bite. I would call slydog and ask them. This is what i have heard they suggest.

i have a set of white powderhound on the way, i guess a buddy of mine talked me into them. he says they grab like c&a but float like a powder ski. so i dont know, i'll find out i guess

Im going to try the SLP slt skis should be a good compromise and yes I tried the PPand the Gen 2 didnt like either

I have powderhounds and 9" bars. Great in powder and trail, not so good on crust(randomly grab, swerve, just unpredictable at high speeds on crusty snow).

I went through this with the Sly Dog Skis last winter. We had stocker skis, C&A, Simmons and Sly Dogs. If looking for a ski that you use on trail mostly and a little in the power the C&As hands down. You turn, the sled turns, no matter what, if you can turn the steering wheel. The C&A where liked by everyone over all.

Slydogs were very light and I loved them in the powder, carving or side hilling. Once on the trail you have to run them for a while to get use to them. If you come into the corners hard and then let off to make the corner it would shoot you right off the corner. If you let off just prior to the corner and then punched it going through to get weight on the front end and the ski on a cutting edge I had no issues. I have 07 M1000 so it really surprised me with the front end weight I had to punch it to get the skis to grab. Just to clarify if the ski is on edge in the corner and you keep it on edge I never really had any problems.

I never did put the Slydogs on the crossfire and then go down the trail like I was in a snocross race to see how hard I could push the ski before it lost its steering capability. I did with the C&A and it held as hard as anyone in our group wanted to push into the corners and three of them have raced snocross.

I did like the Sly Dogs well enough to buy a set, but I won't be racing them down the trail either. THe C&A are stuck on the crossfire.

Thanks for all the input. They are White Slydog Powderhound skis with 6" of carbide. Think I will throw a set of 9" carbides on it and see how that works out for her. Im running C&A Pro Ultra Extreme skis on my M and love it have been running C&A's for years with snocross and now on my hillclimbers, no other ski compares to the bite of those. But those are way too aggressive for her. Will try the 9" carbide on it this year and hopefully that will work out. Just a heads up to anybody ordering that ski this season, order lots of carbide :D

Your suspension setup will have MUCH more effect on how aggessive a ski is on the trail than the ski design itself.....get some weight on those things and it'll turn. The slydogs on our shop sled were very 'darty", had to run a bit more toe-out than the stockers.

personally i have had the sly dogs since i started riding and personally love them, they are awesome one the powder and dont notice anything oon the trail about them...they just flat out work!!

Got a set on an 09 M-1000 and love them. The name says it all POWDERhounds Not the best on trails butttttt....;)

I have a set on a 1M, Seems to me they are the only ones with the ctr section in a concave shape? If they were to be heated up and bent to a convex shape I think they would bite much better?

Mike

I installed the HCR ski on my M-series. Like the deeper keel. Not a lot of $$ either.
