slp vent kit on 09 xp

has anyone installed the slp vent kit on their xp. my concern is the left front (shock vent) part number 32-564. i`m somewhat hesitant to cut out location for this vent because it is not on the side panel itself. it seems vunerable to projectiles thrown from the ski? it is combined with metal backup grate on the inside and requires drilling out the rivet that holds the clutch cover bracket in place. when i pre fit and form this vent, i have to twist the thing to get it to set flat. has anyone successfully installed this thing and how do you get the drill bit through the maze of a-arms and stabilizer bar? any suggestions or tricks would be of great help before i hack a hole in my new machine! thanks

anybody know if you can just order the shock tower vent instead of the whole kit? already have other vents installed there.....

I just used a hole saw that fit in each of the three areas instead of cutting out the whole thing. I also used washers on the back side of the rivets and it sucked up tight and seems to work just fine

I had to remove the shock to drill and cut. I used a dremel tool with a drywall bit.

A little trick I used was to jack up the front end of the sled. It let the A-arms drop enough that I was able to get the drill bit in there. The shock tower vents will twist a little but sit nice and flush once all the rivets are in place.I cut all the holes with a dremel. I found it to fit better if I did some trimming of the screen with a side cutters.

I just installed an Extreme air vents shock tower vent on my XP today. It actually looks very similar to the SLP vent. I used the template provided to mark the opening and cut it out with a utility knife after heating with a heat gun. It actually cut very easy after heating. I was able to drill all the holes from the front (except the clutch gaurd holder) by using a floor jack to manipulate the position of the A-arms. To drill the spot to re-mount the clutch guard holder I had to pop off the primary, but that is really no big deal. Had the whole job done in an hour. Very nice product an excellent instructions. Kudos to Tom at Extreme air vents......:beer;
