Slp stage 2 or3?

hey guys just got my 2012 assault, never had much time to look it through it was from a dealer that ships reaceration vechiles from new hampshire,to canada where im too,get sled back to my garage i notice it has slp single and can, power commander, and im not sure if its slp head aswell, the colour doesnt match the jug, well with that said ,how can i confirm head and what elevation? im at like sea level, and if its for higher elevation well it burn up or can i program commander or burn higher octane fuel? thanks with any info

The only way you will know what head is on it is to take the head off. If it has the SLP cheater head it utilizes the black stock cover. Underneath will either be stock head meaning you have stage 2, or an SLP head with a part number. The part number is on the domes. This number will give you what head u have

As far as mapping that is anyone's guess. I would reinstall mapping when you discover what exactly it is you have

For the most part I think anybody that changes a head will usually get their (SLP) head and domes. Not the cheater head which they have to send their head in and have it machined for the removable domes. The heads are different in appearance where the stock head has the "fins" on the corners and the SLP is smooth. I would think you could probably tell the difference by doing a compression test. If you called SLP they could probably tell you where you should be at between the different compressions (stock versus their domes). I assume you do not have the disc with the software so you can pull the program out and see what is installed? Could probably send that to SLP as well and they could tell you which program it is. I ca send pics of the diffeences if you want.

All the heads utilitize the black stock cover between the SLP head or stock head. It is easy to tell the difference between the stock or SLP head as they are visually different. If it is a cheater heat than you would see a stock head but would probably have to do compression test to see f it has SLP domes. SLP has many different compression domes that can be used.

Just go on their website and download it, no need for the disc.

A simple compression test won't tell you what domes are inside there. Youre going to have to break down and open it up and look. Not a bad idea with a used sled that's new to you anyway to get a good look at the pistons, rings, and cylinder. Another reason to pull the head would be to verify whether or not any porting has been done. That's the only way to tell for sure. And if it is ported you will have to run good fuel!

I agree that it is good to know what condition everything is in but keep in mind that if they (previous owner) just put a pipe on it that includes the power commander. Easiest think may be to start by finding what is loaded in the power commander and go from there.....depends on what you feel comfortable doing and your mechanical abilities to do it. If you can download the map and send it to SLP they can probably tell you just what the map was for.

got the map,he said its the newest one for stage 3,70-228 and that he firgures anyone in new hamshire wouldnt be running high elvations heads, aswell he said do quick compression test 120 to 130,

I would check the burn line on a new set of plugs or piston wash the first time you run it no matter what you find anyways.

i did i ran sled 5 to 10 minutes different throttle ranges and checked wash on plugs, was pretty good little more on the rich side then anything tho tip was nice

Sounds like you may be good to go....no porting and probably lower elevation compresion head....does the sled run good? It probably has the SLP head? It is smooth all around...almost looks polished compared to stock and does not have the little fins on the corners...

Here is what the stock head looks like...this is actually a cheater head as it has been milled out for custom domes but all you would see is the outside of it. You can see the fins I am talking about. Casting looks rougher.

and this is the SLP head, casting is smooth

When you get the head off you will see a number stamped n the domes. You can look on SLP website and find the number and see what they actually are.

well did it she got 12-402 domes which is 0-5000ft so im in the clear, think they had grey locktite can i use any kind i have red at home,25 ft lbs

There is no grey loctite I am aware of. The bolts use a sealant as they go into the waterjackets. Good to put a little around the underside of each of the bolts to prevent antifreeze leaking.

what should i use on the bolts before i put it together?i always thought of blue red locktite?inform whats best tto use, also 25 ft lbs correct on bolts? thanks
