slp single pipe or pcv

I have a 2008 rmk 700. Trying to decide on whether to go with an slp pipe or using the pcv. I have read most of the threads on the pcv and am not sure on how easy it will be to setup and use. I plan on going with 19/42 gears. Not sure what weights to go with either combination and which helix. All mountain riding in Washington 1500-6000 feet.

I just did both on my 800. Used Slp's map. The main reason I got the PCV is I was having lots of piston scoring issues. Rode 60 miles on Sunday and my pistons look new.

Both is best. However since you have a 700 I would say the SLP pipe. There fuel maps were much better than the troubled 800's! Should be more to gain with SLP pipe, but the PCV would help some!

In the same position as you with the same sled. Trying to get some extra horse power out of this 700 without spending 3 grand. Kinda heard the SLP pipe wont give you much gains, so was going to try the PCV with SLP maps.I have the whole motor tore down and have some bad piston scoring. Think a richer map wouldnt hurt. Also in WA

Have you found out what caused the scoring?

No, not for sure. Pretty sure the pistons got to hot, expanded and started rubbing. No signs of early detonation. There were some signs that the crank bearings might have slipped in the case also. This sled was a rental sled and now has 6700 miles on it. So, who knows what happened before I got it. Went to replace the top end and now its turning into a complete rebuild. Not the way I wanted to spend 2k.

wanting to spend around $1000 eventually. want the clutches and gearing setup right and add the hp. I had a 2004 rmk 800 that was setup good . I just don't know what weights and helix combination to go with pipes or pcv or both.

Carl's

If I was u guys I would call Carl's Cycle in Boise ID. Depending on how much u wanna spend, start with there clutch kit and fuel map. After that u could do a pipe, and if u want more then have ur cylinders ported and ur head cut. I have an 09 D8 with the full port/pipe,head cut combo with Carl's clutching and reflash. Sled has run awesome from day one, and I also live and ride in WA.

So was it still running good or did it go down?

You could always get a different brand pipe than the SLP. AAEN Performance makes a good pipe and it isnt super spendy. I've heard good things about their pipes, and I have one on my 07 rev 800R and there was a very noticeable gain.

EB, I have an 07 D7 that I snowchecked in 06. I ran it stock the first season, except for a clutching change which is required when riding down low here in AK (0-5000'). I added an SLP pipe & can, additional SLP intake vents and adjusted the clutching during the 07/08 season. There was a noticeable change in the throttle response. Last season I changed to 19/42 gearing for a little more grunt to get my growing belly up on the snow. I am running the factory helix with 10/64 weights and an almond spring. I haven't installed a PC3 or 5 because I'm not sure of the need at low elevations, maybe some day.

I think I will start with the pipe. SLP has a good deal on them. Then clutching and gearing. 10-64 weights sound like a good start. Anybody have any ideas on the helixes and whether there are any gains to be made there. Lastly I will try the PCV. These forums are great for passing on info. It is what snowmobiling is all about. Enjoying the sport and helping others. Thanks everybody

I didn't know SLP had maps for the 700???

talk to curt over at fastrax 253-848-0908 , he will set you up with the right helix
for your application also the guys at pierres 425-488-8600 have a great set up but theirs is more of a secret, both of these companies ride in western washington and have good hands on experience, hope this helps

The SLP pipe on the 700 really wakes up especially at altitude when used with Carls clutching.
