Put the slp setup on my 08 xp, but wondering about the clamp with the small strip of material under it that goes around the pipe. What is it for? Can I take it off?

can anyone can tell me, if it's just for sound, I want to take it off. I know people don't like loud sleds, but i doo. i ride out in the back country, where no one hears me, so if it's just for sound I will take it off, but if its for something else I will leave it on.
Sound and vibration.....keeps the pipe from cracking prematurely and also supposedly helps to keep from breaking pipe springs by reducing harmonics. Or so they say-
