slp intake on rev question

i am looking at putting the slp intake on an '06 rev. The main question i have is does it connect to the existing side panel air box or does it replace it? After filling the side panel airbox full of snow i have since added a pre-filter sock and a filter over the round part that connects the side panel box to the main air box when the panel is closed. This should help but would like some input on the slp intake. If anyone wants to lend their $0.02 i would appreciate it.

it connects to existing side box, had this kit on my 04 and 07, have had good luck. If you go with the slp kit spend some time getting the filter grate to fit snug, I even used a little silicone to seal it so it could not suck powder between grate and side panel.

Thanks for the input. I downloaded the instructions for instalation from slp & can see now how it works & is what i am looking for. I have orded it & the hot air elimination kit. Any other hints or feedback is appreciated.

just take your time and make sure of the fit before cutting. I have used a dremel and a roto-zip for cutting out the side panel and air box. If you go this way start rpms slow, easy to get outside line. They make a heck of mess and you will need to debure the edge's. If you use the dremel/roto-zip way I would not do it in the house unless you put down drop cloth, like I said it makes a mess. If you have any qestions PM me, glad to help if I can.

06' Highmark x

I have installed these on 04's, 05's and 06's. Both intake and hot air kits work great. As stated above messy and a little maticulous. Take your time and pop rivet the outer hole rather than the chicken $hit bolt they give you. I also siliconed all of mine and works great. I used slp's performance edition kit on the 06' and wound up jetting all the way down to 420's. Man this thing rips though.

Thanks for the replies, I think i will rivet grates on as well. As for the performance kits i would like to see some horse power #'s from before & after. I have been looking into slp, rk tec, drop in kits and such. Just not sure if they are worth the money.......spending 2000 on a used sled that runs perfect as is just to get it to what the new sleds are putting out? regardless i am still thinking about it just not sure if it is worth the tuning hasle or the money. DJ clutch kit is probably the next on my list........and the tinkering begins.

The kit for my '07 came with rivets, i agree about the bolts. Ragencajun, I did not rejet any of the slp kits I have put on but let me say they were all running a little fat from dealer. I would check plugs and even wash to be safe but have not heard of anyone going to lean with just the intake kit. If you are jetted on the edge now you could go up to be safe and then work down after install

Jetting

Actually what happens when you install the slp kit is your carbs lose vacuum signal. This causes the DPM to run rich. You must jet down. Slp recommends going from 400's on an 04 05' model down to 360's with there head. I have done this and it works awesome. On there 06 powertek model stock jetting is 440's and I am @ 420's. Sled is spot on from 8k-10k.

Funny that you say that, I was just dicussing that with a friend from B.C. and a reputable shop from there is going to modify his air box and jet down as well. I am not sure to what but i will find out. I guess i just thought of it as giving a constant supply of cold air and not adding more air....if that makes any sense? If anyone else has had experience with this feel free to give some input.

I'm going to 420 jets i think. Just wondering how adding air makes it go rich and if thats the case why is dealer saying i could possibly burn it down by adding more air ? Shouldnt more air make it leaner or is it vice versa and it messes with vacuum making it richer ? I have heard nothing but good things about the dealer im using so why would they tell me i need to rejet if i didnt need too ? making a few dollars off the jets seem silly and if the vacuum problem already makes it rich why cut air supply by jetting down. Am i confused or have i read the above posts right ?
