SLP intake install hints...

Installed the SLP intake and when the instructions tell not to cut into the air horns disregard and cut away. The current instructions were for the 600 Rush and it did not need the additional airflow of the modded air horns. When SLP got a hold of the 800 this fall, they flow and dyno'd tested w/ and w/o the air horns and they found that the 800 liked more air.

I just took the air horns out all together.. After seeing them in there im not puting my slp air intake in, just took the horns out and i think it will help alot.. Someone will have to show me that the slp intake will help now that the air horns are out of my hood intake box before i start drilling holes in my dash...

Any thing will help. If you are going to keep it all stock you should be fine the way you are. I am not, and need all the air I can get:face-icon-small-win

please tell us more about these mystery air horns... where they are located and how to remove them!

They're shelves inside your airbox, you will need to pop the hood off to remove them, they are below the pre-filters

are you referring to removing "5" in this diagram, sorry i really one who needs it mapped out to make sure i'm removing what i need to.

?? The IQ's would set air intake codes w/ check engine light if you gutted their air boxes.

Exactly what I was thinking. Removing the internal horns decreased performance. Increasing venting into the the air plenum will help in deep powder days as vents get covered in snow, but messing with the internal air horns messed with the intake air. The SLP air horn for the IQ's was on the intake side of the air box, not the box itself.

Decreased performance, voided warranty, blinking lights, beat by all other brands, = bad move. There may not be proof the SLP intake increases power, but it is proven that gutting the airbox on these cfi sleds DECREASES performance, among other problems.

NO....You never want to mess w/ the internals of the airbox...
Those horns are there for a reason. One of the biggest is smooth out air turbulance about to go into the engine.

What I am talking about is #7 on the diagram below. NOT THE AIR BOX

MX86: Where are these shelves? I took the hood off and have it on the bench with the pre-filters out. Looks like a mess in there. how does it come apart to get the shelves out? I think the SLP intake may help, but is so ugly! Trying other options to avoid that. Is there a picture that shows?

Thanks!

take the hood off and under the intake vents there is a intake box with clips kind of like the old carb are boxes.. pop all the clips and the box will drop from the hood then the three push darts that you see from the bottom hold the air horns in place in the box... remove the darts and remove the horns with the tiny little end holes in them.. the only reason they are there is for intake noise reduction.. and they look like they are a huge restriction on air flow to the lower air box... so they are no long in mine....
