slp can getting really hot

Help . Has anyone run into this problem . I have a slp pipe and can and have never had a problem tell today . Has all kinds of venting . Pipe doesnt get really hot but can got so hot it melted a hole in the side vent and the upper hood vent . Sled would sputter at low rpm then fine at higher rpms . It you turn it off for a few minutes then it would run fine tell can got hot again then start running bad again . I am woundering if the packing in the can is plugging off inside the can . Pulled can off and cant see a problem . Like a said hasnt been a problem tell the last couple of rides . Any thoughts would help .

I don't believe SLP cans use packing, they are baffle design cans if I am not mistaken. I don't know why your issue suddenly came up but I stopped running an SLP can this year because of the excess heat and slight rpm loss. My pull start handle and everything in the can are was getting ridiculously hot.

Make sure you didn't loose your deflector on the bottom first. What was the outside temp? Have you changed the TPS settings lately? Is all the venting on the clutch side or both sides?

I have heard of baffles cooming loose in the SLP cans. Take it off and shake the living s#@t out of it and see if you hear any rattling.

can

Deflector still there , havent done anything to the tps or motor all year except balance clutches and has been flawless all year long . venting on both sides . I think i may just cut the side of the can open to look inside and see whats going on . I can always weld it back together . Isnt the tuning all done inside the pipe not the can . I can always bluid my on can if i find the can is the problem and would make it lighter than the slp can also . I have bluit a few cans for older sleds and havent had any problems with them and they sound great to .

Something happen to my father inlaws, I think Slp told him it was making a blast furnace if that makes cents to you guys put a different one on and more problems

The exhaust temp probe could be your problem also. When it goes TU the computer starts to dump excess fuel into the system to "save" itself. Some of the excess gets blown out the exhaust and re-ignites in the can.

can

Well i got looking at the can alittle more and noticed that someone had cut the bottom open then rewelded it back together . So i cut the bottom open to look inside and found that they had remove the deflector shield and rewelded it over top the outlet hole . So i put it back where it came from and welded the bottom back on . Wanted togo out today to see if that fixed it but didnt make it out . May have to wait tell next year to find out . My sons play semi pro football and the next 3 weekends are away games so i well be on the road alot .

Have exhaust temp probe checked for proper operation also. Have seen them rub on the hood and chafe wires as well as slow/temp operation problems...
