Sled trailer, how fast do you drive?

I usually pull a 2 place trailer with fat 8" tires on the interstate and drive 75. Anyone else do that? How fast do you dare drive with them? I usually keep the tires inflated to max pressure so they don't generate much heat and grease the bearings often.

Anyone else?

I'll drive anywhere from 65 to 80 depending on whether I'm intersted in fuel mileage or interested in getting there or getting home. Never had any issues either way.

I pull my 4 place open with 4-10inchers at whatever the speed limit is (60-70)... I've felt em when we stopped for gas and not even warm... just make sure they are inflated to the max and the bearings are in good shape and you should be ok as long as you don't overload your setup.:beer;

Pull my 7X25 with 15s usually around 75mph but when we get in a hurry to get there we've held it at 85 for a couple hundred miles and had it to more then that for short distances tires are never hot. Used to pull my 2place with 10" tires at 75mph 2 sleds and no issues.

I would be worried about towing a single axle trailer 70+ that was very heavy at all.

Triton 2 place alum, 8" tires, run 75-77 all the time. Just keep the bearings lubed and air pressure checked. Doesn't hurt to feel the hubs and tires from time to time to see if they are too warm.

Like Coldfinger said, check your pressure and keep things lubed and you should have no problems. I thought VDO was gonna smoke my little 8 inchers a few years ago at 75mph, but they never generated heat. I upgraded to 10" after that trip just to be safe. I see 2 place Tritons like mine with 2 Harleys heading down I-90 to Sturgis in 90+ temps doing 80mph and they do all right, so 2 sleds in freezing temps shouldn't be a problem.

Back when Montana did'nt have a daytime speed limit we used to pull a two place featherlight from about 90-99mph. If you went over 99mph, cops would pull you over. Knock on wood...never blew a tire.

99mph comimng from Texas 35 times. 80,000miles on tires

No problems from 2002-2008, only got 3 tickets 2@100(rounded off by cop), 1for 90. 8i nch No problems Lube/inflate every trip and go. 10 foot Triton 1 sled Only out in the open, no intersections, nothing crazy, gotta focus. Met Honorable Beatrice Stoddard in Hartley Texas. Polite, but all business. No worries mate. Gas is up, so slow down, by the time you make 3-4 extra fuel stops going that fast, all you did was pass yourself grief.

Under 70mph. Fuel is expensive any faster than about 68mph :)

x2^^^ I don't like knowing what a smaller trailer could do blowing something out going over 70 mph. Always been a bit cautious with anything from the 2-place to the gooseneck since the time I experienced the 'cookie of death' going down the wrong lane on the way home a few years ago. 70+ just isn't my level of comfort with a loaded trailer in tow.

You would be less than comfortable in our group!

With gas getting near $4 a gallon for premium, I just can't afford to drive fast anymore.

Dang trailer is like towing a brick!

Ha......Probably if I was driving. I am really low key when being a passenger, so whatever the driver wants to do is fine with me. If I'm driving though, you guys would probably be enraged back seat drivers :director: :whip: I'm all about a good time when someone else is responsible for what happens.
