1/2 watt FRS, 2 watt GMRSAny idea what the transmit wattage is?
I can't find it anywhere on their page.

We use this set up and it works pretty well.
BLAH BLAH BLAH ... reason to go sledding is to get away from people talking constantly (house with wife & three daughters) .... when we need to talk we stop.
I believe they are .5 watt.Any idea what the transmit wattage is?

Yea that...
Edit: One more Rino question. Does anyone know if there is a way to lock the screen? when its in my chest pocket all sorts of menus and buttons and settings get screwed up because the inside of my vest must touch the touch screen and cause changes.
I wish i could find a Push to talk shoulder mic for it.. I bought a MotoComm snowmobile headset for it but didn't like messing with all those wires everywhere, also for some reason when I plug the motocomm in the garmin randomly shuts itself off sometimes.
Just do an Amazon search garmin rino 650 speaker mic

Yea I already did that the only ones on there are from a Chinese vendor, with a 1-2 month delivery estimate.
Our group uses them, they work well but are very limited range(guessing 200 yards or so in the trees, quite a bit farther direct line of site). When someone gets stuck you have to backtrack to be close enough to pick them up and talk also with the auto mic if you have a loud sled in the group it will randomly set off the transmit function (mainly on the trail in or out) this part is very annoying. Lastly all units must be on the same software version of they will not pair up, not a big deal once you know. Customer service from UClear has been awesome and the warranty has been good and each software update gets better.Anyone try the Uclear comms?
No wires to worry about on the chatter box 1x slimHere is what I use: These radios are Baofeng UV-5RE Plus 2 meter ham radios programmed to the FRS and GMRS frequencies. The mic is waterproof. I put the radio inside my backpack then clip the mic to the top of the shoulder strap. 2 of these radios on Amazon are $68 then I paid about $25 per waterproof mic.
I have tried the helmet headsets and while I like them once they are on, getting your helmet on and off with wires attached is problematic.
Whats clear is that RIGHT NOW there is no absolute winner.
The HAM radios are the most powerful and offer the best possible antennas, but are also kinda the least well suited for what we are doing.
The units with the best helmet installations and Vox, are all lower power.
If the BC Link would jump up to 5 watts they would have a GREAT package for non-helmet mounted.
if we could get a great helmet interface the Garmin would be a SLAM DUNK as it offers rider location tracking.
