Sled Stuck in Backcountry and Won't Start

A week ago I went 50 kms up into the alpine, after letting my sled (2000 summit 700) sit for a few hours it started first pull but shut off two seconds later. After an hour of trying different things (swapping plugs, dipping plugs, choke no choke, checking electrical etc...) It would not start, couldn't tell in the daylight if it would spark or not. In the last week my friends have gone up multiple times to try and tow it out with 2 XP's. It is stuck at the bottom of a huge hill in Seagrams, Whistler BC. The best case senerio is for me to get it running and ride it out. any suggestions on what to do?

Borrow a dpem that you know works. It could also be the stator. Bigger job.

Bring a multi meter and check the ohm readings at the stator.. check shop manual for ohm readings. .02

Also, if it has spark, check reeds/reed cages. I have seen many time reed cages delaminated enough that it is almost impossible to start. Good luck!

2000 700's were famous for stator issues., Verify spark.. if not spark.. chances are it is your stator.

mine did sorta the same thing the other day It was my mpem but im not sure if thee 2000 had an mpem. I rode all day long then bam it was dead towed it off the mountain bought a used mpem and took it back up 4 hrs in bam sled died again put the new mpem in it fired up fist pull and rode the rest of the day no problems.

If you still need to pull it out. Try placing a Crazy-Carpet under the track for the hill pulls. Works great just don't try going downhill with it!!!

If it is a really big hill and you dont want to use a heli, this usually works: Remove track and rear skid. Turn skis backwards. Attach rear bumper of towed sled to rear bumper of towing sled. Pin it. If you need to remove more weight to make it, drain the gas, a nearly full tank can weigh a lot.

By removing the weight of the track and skid you will not be causing the towing sled to wheelie. All of the remaining weight will be on the skis only.

By reducing the weight by 100+lbs and reducing the drag your chances will be good. If the guys towing are really good friends, attach a rope from a second sled to the front of the piggybacking sled and then you can really climb.

A heli from Seagrams is probably cheaper then the potential damage you could cause, but if you are in an area where a heli isnt an option, this method is very effective.
