sled starting problem,please help

i just rebuilt the drive clutch thinking that was the problem but it still is doiing this: when you pull the starting rope it is pulling the sled a bit and wont start unless I have someone hold the *** end off the ground , is this the driven clutch grabbing, i checked belt tension, it is fine, alignment??, if anyone has experienced this and knows what direction for me to go Id really appreciate the help
Thanks!
George

Take the secondary apart and check the buttons. The helix could be catching on the worn out buttons.

belt width

yes ive tried 3 diffrent new belts by 3 manufacturers, i did notice that the driven clutch seems to rock back and forth when i grab two sides and wiggle it side to side, maybe ill try a skinnier belt and see what happens

making the belt "longer" and likely not the problem. what kind of rebuild on the primary did you do? if the shaft bushing on the sliding half is not properly installed or binding it will not fully open. if it is a belt length issue, the wear will be obvious on the inside cooling cogs on the belt. if you can hold the sled still with it running and it wears on the sides of the belt (an hourglass shape) the belt is too wide or the clutch isn't opening fully. hope this helps a bit.

The only time I've had this problem, I had a broken spider in the primary clutch. Check that for cracks or broken pieces. It doesn't take much. This forces the primary or drive clutch to be partially closed at all times, which puts pressure on the belt, which will make the sled act like it's already in gear and try to take off. This is common with arctic cats.
