sled registration, and avy beacons

Hey finally got a group of us heading to Rabbit Ears on Thursday 1/3, kinda a last minute throw together trip. I am sure there was a thread on here talking about having to register your sleds with the parks department, can anyone give me any insight to this?? Does this include out of staters? Where can we register and what does it take to register? Also we have been hearing about the high avalanche danger currently, which is something that we dont deal with in Kansas. Is there any place that rents out avalanch beacons, or am I dreaming?? We probably will only make a couple of trips at best this yr. Looks like beacons are kinda spendy, but what price do u put on life?? If rentals are out of the question can anyone recommend a place along I70 corridor from Denver on west that would be an easy stop to purchase beacons??? If so what beacons do you recommend?? Thanks for any input, it will be greatly appreciated.

You should be able to rent beacons, probes and shovels at many of the ski rental places along I70. Beacon isn't much use without the other gear too. I used to use Breeze ski rentals in Idaho Springs years ago. You will need a permit. Do a search on CO Snowmobile Assoc. or CO State Parks and you should find that info there.

In Sumiit County Forest service in Silverthorne will get you Colorado registered,or most sled dealers if they have the forms instock. All you need is the VIN # and to sign the form stating you are the legal owner. As far as beacon rentals Wilderness sports(also in Silverthorne)did rent them and probably still does 970-468-5687.You should be able to rent beacon probe and shovel.I own a BCA tracker and find it easy to use.If you do rent them or buy practice with it before you need to use them

snowmobile registration

Hi, If you are looking to register first check on line , I think the site is colorado state parks.com. If you guys get into town you could stop at any powersports dealer and they will issue you a permit, I think they cost 25 dollars a year. As for the avalanche beacon rental there are some ski rental shops along the way, first town to check is idaho springs, and if they don't have any I'm sure they could tell you who would. I have been up to rabbit ears two weekends in a row, the first weekend was epic conditions, the second weekend was a little rougher lot's of traffic but a bad day snowmobiling is better than a good day at work. Well I hope that the info will help, have a safe trip and happy trail's.
