Sled not running consistent

I have a 97 zr 440 and it will not run the same rpms when i first start the day out it will run 8800 rpms thats where it should run and it does at for like the first 20 mins then it starts to only hit between 6700 to 8000. 8200 if im lucky and just jumps back and forth in that area but never back up to 8800 what could be the problem any help would be great thanks.

first I'd check the compression. Then I'd check the clutches. primary could possibly do that, but I'd be more drawn to the secondary not shifting correctly. You may even have a crank seal that is leaking.

being a 97 it could be a mirriad of issues to look at, but I'd start with compression, and plugs.
