Sled Decks

Hey everybody, I was just wondering with so many companys building sled decks out there now, what are some must haves you guys want in sled decks and whats some stuff that you are wanting to see in sled decks. Thanks

I like all aluminum, tig welded construction, slide out sides, a long ramp in for lifted trucks, super clamps included and I really prefer the composite decking offered by Full Lotus Manufacturing. They have been great decks.

PM me for more info.

Well, I'll tell it for you too Mike. I've had 3 different decks and the Silverlake Deck by Mike is by FAR the best one I've ever used/seen. I can't say enough good about them.

Silverlakes Stuff is Bomber.
I tend to break everything. Not so with this Deck.
Overbuilt but very light.
Telescoping Ramp is SWEET. Works with Sleds and ATV's or Desert sleds and even Dirtbikes.
Simple One man operation.
Sides Slide in so its no bigger than your bed when driving around town.
Check it out.

One thing I am wondering about sled decks. Is it better to have a box liner of some sort, or is it better to have the deck sitting right on the truck box itself?

Sorry about that, I wasn't very clear. What I was wondering, is it better for the truck box to have some kind of liner (line-x, wood, rubber, etc) to keep the bed from getting scratched and so forth, or is it better for the sled deck to be in direct contact with the truck box? Would there be less chance of flex in the sled deck if it was steel on steel?
Maybe some of the decks are manufactured and have liner sprayed on the bottom already?

Just curious as I am looking to pick up a sled deck this winter as well. Sorry to the thread starter to hijack this thread. I can start my own thread if that is preferential.

haha Its all good, I have a question for people with sled decks already, How much lighter is an aluminum deck compared to a steel deck? Would you rather have a steel deck for 1500 or would you rather spend 3 grand or more on an all aluminum deck?

I have an aluminum deck and my buddies Toyup steel deck is way lighter and easier to use.. I think it weighs like 350lbs my alum deck is over 400..

I had a homemade steel deck last year, and a STF this year. It really isn't that much lighter. And my homemade deck had 3/4" decking instead of 1/2" I believe? And it had a beavertail. I would say the STF is maybe 50 lbs lighter max. The big thing is the ramp, probably 40lbs less there to. A steel ramp SUCKS it is very heavy. I would never have a fixed side deck again though.

I really like my STF, managed to find a 40 gallon slip tank that I only loose the front foot of my box for, which is pretty much useless anyway. The only thing i'd say is a must, is bolt the front atleast threw the box. Most trucks tie down points in the box are not strong enough.

The box will get scratched up from the deck if you don't have a liner, but any of the ways, it doesn't matter. Only thing I would consider is putting down some plywood under the legs so they don't dent the box. That just depends on the deck as some have tiny legs for the amount of weight.

i got some rubber material from a telebelt concrete 'pump' not sure what that thing is called.... but rubber from a conveyor belt or something would work well too.

Just make sure if you do something under there you get it ALL the way around or use a FULL sheet of plywood where ALL sides are resting on the plywood! I never had a problem with scratching my rihno liner in my old truck but with my new truck i got linex and it's worn through to the bed in a month! sucks, but that's another story. i also found with my newer chevy I needed to put a block of wood up front to get the bed to sit back a tiny bit so it wasn't rubbing against the front -something that never happend with my old truck either...

Anyway, I'm a MotoMikey (Silver lake Mfg) girl. love his decks AND most importantly his customer service!! Deck has everything you need and it VERy affordable. He has some REALLY sweet ones coming out this year. I might have to sell my old one just so I can get on board with the new look!! (Anyone want to buy my old one??)
