Folks just hooking larger ratchet straps to all 4 box tie downs? Any issues with that to those of you who used decks? Or would a camper turnbuckle be better?

ran ratchet tie downs for a weekend. Didn’t feel like it was secure enough so i went to turn buckles the next weekend. It seemed more stable.

Turnbuckles if you have a sleds on it. Straps are fine for moving it or the trip home from buying it.

Bolting it down through the feet and bed floor is even better.

I started with heavy duty ratchet straps for 2-3 years, went to turnbuckles for 2 years, and now I’ve gone back to ratchet straps.

If you use good straps, I use the big ones you find at Costco, you set them tight at the beginning of the year and they hold the tension really well. My turnbuckles would never stay tight for long.

I bet any good ratchet strap will far exceed the rating of the tie down hooks we are all attaching to in the truck bed.

Bolting through the bed is the best but not something I’m interested in.

Add a extra nut to act as a jam/lock nut on the turn buckle and they won’t come loose.

I've run heavy duty straps and turn buckles. I had issues with buckles backing off, this was before i knew about jam nutting them. I had issues with straps chaffing as well but overall i preferred straps as they were easy to get tension perfect and they never seemed to move.

I've now landed on pickup box camper style adjustable length binders. once they are all set and adjusted for the deck and truck they go in and out super easy and are VERY secure and can easily rip the bed hooks out of the truck before failing.

i use a ratchet strap called a boat buckle. there made for the back of your boat trailer and mount in place to hold the back of the boat down to the trailer. ive used them since 2012 i think.
ive never had a prob. i even got into an accident and the deck stayed in the box and the sled stayed on the deck

i bolted them on the deck in each corner
